The Rhodebar thread!

So sorry. Always the dilemma when you move. When we moved the entire farm almost 3 years ago i moved a couple of the Maremma first. It was the only way I felt comfortable moving heavy bred ewes and a hundreds of chickens to begin virgin property.

Help! I am a total chicken beginner as well as new to this website. Please excuse any ignorance on my part. A friend hatched us a few Rhodebar chicks as well as a few black copper Marans. To my understanding the Rhodebar's gender can be determined as chicks. I looked at several pictures from this thread and was happy to determine I had two females. I am including pictures. The Rhodebar chick on the right is the chick in question. Sadly we lost the other to a dog. The picture below is The chick now, at 18 weeks. This chick...my daughter named it Chip...does not appear female to me. In fact, she..."it" crows all day. Now according to Google it is in fact possible and not even that uncommon for hens to crow. However, I'm pretty sure we have a Roo. Am I wrong in thinking as a chick it appeared to be a pullet? Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks in advance!

Ok I may be wrong but the older chicken is not a rhodebar but in fact a copper maran cockeral.

I agree, there appears to be 2 Rhodebar chicks in the first photo, but I don't see a Rhodebar in the 2nd photo.

Hi all! I'm new to this thread. A few weeks ago I got 6 rhodebar chicks from Greenfire farms as part of a rare chick special. I also got 3 altsterier, which I could not tell from the rhodebars. The 3 I thought were altsterier because they were darker with a darker colored beak turns out are rhodebars as the 3 lightest ones are just starting to show signs of a crest. so now that I know who my rhodebars are I just want to confirm the sex. I know it should be straight foward as they are rhodebars from a reputable breeder. From what I can tell they are females as they have the stripe down the back but I find it hard to believe they would have given me all girls. What do you guys think. Here are pics of the group.

I don't see any Rhodebar males, so it looks like you have all females.

Does anybody sell chicks or eggs that the chicks are already able to be auto sexed and the parents are of good quality. If so pm me please thank you and gob bless.

Thank you! That is so interesting. If you look at the picture of the chicks, the Rhodebar chick on the right and the older chick in the middle of the second picture are the same bird. I am 100% sure of this. Like I said, I am new to chickens so I've been looking at pictures of both breeds and I sort of thought that it looked more like a Maran. However, as a chick it definitely looked like a Rhodebar. The guy that gave them to me has both breeds. He keeps them in two totally separate areas, but the only explanation I can think of is that somehow my little dude is a Rhodebar/BCM cross. Not what I expected, but he's pretty so I guess it's ok. Do all Rhodebar's have yellow feet? his started out yellow and then turned dark. I was worried there was something wrong with him at first because the other chick I lost had yellow feet. Oh, one more question...the two rhodebar chicks...do they both look female or was I missing something? I could have sworn they both looked like female markings.
