I would analyze their nutrition.
Mine get 20-22% protein until they begin to lay... And here's the key... plenty of animal protein. Remember chickens are omnivores not herbivores.
A lot of folks feed chick starter and prepackaged chicken feed. I can't make recommendations about those since I don't feed those but if I had to for some reason I would assure they contained no soy and this time of year they would have plenty of rotation for access to new places for bugs daily.
We raise BSF this time of year but we freeze them for when bugs are no longer plentiful. We also do not feed them to prelayers since they are very high in calcium in addition to protein.
