The Rhodebar thread!

Pics
My Rhodebars (bought from GFF) are 25 weeks old - and still no eggs - no interest in the nest boxes, either. Is that typical? I thought since they had some RIR in them, they'd lay by now.

Yeap they should be.... should lay as well if not better than RIR as long as the strain used to create them was a layer strain and not just a show strain.....

I got mine from GFF and mine hen laid at 26 wks. and the first egg was blue and 3 days later she begin laying brown eggs...do believe something amiss here....

Twisted-Rooster..A few years ago the same thing happend to me except it was with Marans...I got a green egg the day I got her home and I don't think I ever got another from her...but boy was I ticked-off when I got that first one!!!! Good-looking birds by-the-way............

Thanks!!! They are nice looking!!! Again the hen is laying blue-green eggs 3 days in a row...Don't think she is full Rhodebar....maybe cream legbar, she don't have enough red in her...think I got ripped on this deal...

I would politely let them know. They have been great with me fixing some mistakes in ways that were more than reasonable. just tell them what is happening and ask politely for a replacement of the same age.

This is my last hatch from my Rhodebar project for a while. So far I have 4 yellow, 7 black, and only 1 red from this hatch.

I can't believe my luck. I underestimated how challenging this would be. This gives me a lot more respect for those who are able to accomplish their goals breeding chickens. I think I'll just cheat and get hatching eggs from rc50.

I also got an oddball in the current hatch - one light gray chick.

Here he is with the red chick and one of the yellow chicks.

Even his skin is gray.

I don't remember anything else getting into that pen. I'm not sure what to think about the gray chick. Sigh . . .

Hopefully that makes one roo and one hen between the last two hatches. I think I'm in the same situation with holding off once these next hatches are done. Hoping this new roo can increase my red chicks some. Have you been able to see barring in your first red chick yet.
