Well I have three small males that are 14 weeks old and I have their father... and several females... this time of year I am doing allot of culling and only keep the very best I have for the coming year... I do plan to add new blood as I have some New Hampshire eggs in the incubator now... I plan to use Hagedoorn method of to breed New Hampshire blood back into my Hampbars till they really are more New Hampshire but this does take years... if you have not seen this take a look here at my birds...

Jeremy .. I know of and have written back and forth with tadkerson for years... the male in that pic, you can check with him... is not a pure Rhodebar... meaning that male does not carry two genes for barring but only one... that is why he is so red... a pure breeding double barred male Rhodebar is lighter in color because carring two genes and they have to have two genes... lightens them up... tadkerson no longer is breeding them... here is a pic of my Hampbar male that is the father of my pure Hampbar male.... in fact here is a pic of male males I had that carried only one gene for barring see how much red they have....

Good to know, I had hoped he was a pure Rhodebar, a double factor barred bird that dark in color would be just gorgeous IMO.

I really like the shape of that rooster, that to me what Rhodebar breeders should strive for.

I like your Hampbars too. Researching auto sexing breeds online I've also become interested in the Welbar, if only I had more space and money to start a few new projects! LOL.

Doesn't the male have to be a pure bar (double bar) in order to be a Rhodebar? I am just at the beginning stages on this project. I have my barred cockerel and my pullets. Now just waiting on them to grow up. I have been reading everything I can on this breed and hope I get it right. Both my cockerel and pullets are from standard stock not hatchery stock so I am hoping to get some deep coloring on my Rhodebars.

yes you are right to be pure the male is double barred... and being double barred he is going to be lighter in color....

I like the hen on the left, she has good color. If I were undertaking this project I would start by using the deepest mahogany colored females I could possibly source. You want your Rhodebars to have a deep mahogany color as well.

This is a single factor barred male created here in the US by tadkerson[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]. He has a nice deep mahogany color, double factor males will be lighter in color.[/FONT]

I really like the color on this roo.........this is what I'll have to work for in the coming year..........The bird on the left is one of the rir hens, the other is the legbar, I have another one wich is larger and broader then this one...I'll get a couple of pic's in the day time...They have been with the roo for a while now....putting 7 eggs into the bator tonight(even 3 bluegreen eggs) test hatch, We'll see what comes out in 21 days...That's Jeremy!!!

What? really? would they replace them for you or did they respond in any way to there being an oddly colored egg coming out of your rhodebar?
