The right light?

Hi, what kind of light do you think is the best for chicks eyes? Red frosted or clear. (under 150 watts)

How 'bout NO LIGHT? I use a ceramic heat bulb used for reptiles.....

I've always used the red light. During the day the room light is on so they get more light that way.

I got a 165 watt ceramic bulb on Ebay for $10.50 plus a couple bucks for shipping. It keeps my brooder, which is a 45 gal. rubbermaid tote, at 95. I love it, I can't wait to use it next month!

Yeah I can't remember the price, but not much - and worth it to me that my chicks knew night from day and could get into a nice routine. It would start getting dark in their room (spare room) and they would all just flop down in little fluffy piles!

When they got to about 2 weeks they figured out the roost thing..... they look so darn cute Roosting when they're so little!

Any petshop that sells reptiles will carry them. Petsmart definitely has them, but they are expensive. Shop around. They are with the red heat lamps. Look on Ebay, though. Put in "ceramic reptile" or "reptile heat*". You can probably save quite a bit.
