You described the typical person out there! But even more are just the average persons with cell phones glued to their cheekbones, running their kids from activity to activity until no one knows where they belong or who they really are, think shopping is a "woman thing" and who feels like women who actually think deeper than a dew drop are "strange".

You know? Those women who say they want to live cheaper and whine constantly about how much money they need but in the next breath start a sentence with, " I could NEVER live without <insert cell phone, new car, lap dogs, jewelry, several pairs of shoes, vacations to the beach, my cable/dish TV, my nice house, etc.>

These are those who find me strange.

Of that ilk I do not fit and I am most comfortable in my body, in my mind and in my soul but others are not so comfortable around someone who is comfortable with being different than most people. All my clothes will fit into two duffel bags...shoes and coats included. I don't color my hair and haven't had it cut or styled by a beautician since the early 90s..once..and cried all the way home. I'm overweight and have ceased to care...this is me and that is life. Of course I'd love to be slim but not to suit the world's view of what women should look like..just so I can tie my shoes without holding my breath!

I have utter and complete faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and am proud and humbled to say it.

I can change my own oil, my own tire, can run my own chainsaw, mower, saw, drill or any other equipment without a man's assistance. I've been paying my own way since I was 14 yrs old. I don't think that women should be helpless and I do feel they should feel honored to be good housewives, good mothers, and good partners to their husbands. There is honor and nobility in being a mother and a wife. Any other profession is a part-time job, IMO.

I'm not in debt and don't even own a credit card. I have not one piece of jewelry and have never owned a cell phone. I haven't ever had "real" TV since I was about 6 yrs old....we watch DVDs if we are so inclined. I read all the time...no romances, very little mysteries, no murders, no sci-fy, no best sellers. Just good, old stories.

I love my dogs/animals and they really love me back...but I do not engage in rubbing my animals all over my body nor do I think they are my children, babies, humans or anything other than exactly what they are. They live a good life according to their species and their purpose...and so do I. They have never slept in my bed or on my couch but they would walk through fire for me or die trying.

I love my kids and never had "terrible twos" or "terrible teens" like most folks say they have...I enjoyed every stage of their lives and told them so every day. I think they are wonderful people and would feel the same if they were not mine and just someone I met. Yes, I spanked my kids and didn't allow them to do what all the popular kids were doing...and they would walk through fire for me. As I would for them.

I'm just not the typical American or Earthling and I like that fact...but not many others do. People are not comfortable with the one animal in the herd that is a different color/stripe/kind. I am she. Their problem, not mine.

I'm only a pilgrim here and am just passing through. I never intended to make this my home.

I have been reading this thread from the beginning and have have 6 more pages to go. I am loving the information and you are so kind to be sharing it with all of us; I have my own story I'll share when I get all the way through the thread but I had to chime in here because Bee, you are my kind of woman! When I drove old trucks before all the fancy computerized stuff I did my own tune ups and oil changes and such. I can't run things like chainsaws and weedeaters with pull rope starters anymore due to an injury, but I used to do all of that myself. I still do a lot of rough carpentry, split and stack wood and a load of other things. I butcher my own meat, too. I haven't had TV in about 20 years and it was the best thing I think I ever did for my kids, too. made them get outside and play with their friends more. I don't wear perfume, makeup, the latest styles, ect. I am just not a foo foo woman! I don't shop for fun and any more if I take my time while shopping it's because I'm looking for the best made in America deal I can find. I learned to read before I started kindergarten and have been a voracious reader my whole life. A great deal of the time I spend on the computer is reading, not just forums like this but also all the old out of print books that are available on the internet for free now. I trim my own hair once in awhile but haven't set foot in a 'beauty shop' in about 40 years. Nobody else 'gets' me except my oldest daughter. Tho my son does at least sometimes understand part of what I am about. My younger daughter unfortunately still doesn't get it and she is about like the average one out there. Cell phone seems surgically implanted, always fiddling with her fake nails, changing her hair color, shops for fun (tho she does shop for bargains and does it well)..... well did my best and that's all I can do.

IF that is the case and if it is indeed this disease, this is a bird that I would cull right now.

Quote:
Avian chlamydiosis is a zoonotic disease that can affect people following exposure to air- or dustborne organisms when infected birds are in flocks or processed, or when organisms are shed from the digestive or respiratory tracts of infected birds confined in breeding aviaries, lofts, or wholesale or retail outlets. Human disease most often results from exposure to psittacines or pigeons and can occur even if there is only brief proximity to a single infected bird. When workers are exposed to infected turkeys or ducks at processing, increased absenteeism due to acute respiratory disease often occurs ~1 wk after a flock with a high condemnation rate due to airsacculitis has been processed. Some individuals, especially pregnant women and those with impaired immunity, are more susceptible than others. The illness in people is usually respiratory and characterized by abrupt onset of flu-like symptoms; pneumonia, organ failure, and death can result if the disease is severe or left untreated. Precautions should be taken when examining a dead infected bird (eg, detergent disinfectant to wet feathers, fan-exhausted examining hood, dust mask or plastic face shield, and gloves) to avoid exposure.

I think my niece got this from one of her parrots, but not sure...could have been another resp. illness caused by keeping her birds.

I don't think it's Chlamydiosis (aka Psittacosis).

The photos reminded me of canker (aka Trichomoniasis - the bird version). Made me wonder if those warty things were actually coming out from the chicken's nostrils, not growing off the beak itself. Couldn't tell from the photos. Here's a link: http://www.avianweb.com/canker.html .

Those growths on the beak remind me of an old farmer who fed his chickens corn, and they rarely seen green grass and little sun. The bird just might need FF and some kelp.

I really think thats why so many of us have found this thread not only for the awesome info on raising our flocks but because we all relate to each other so well. {so much alike}

I need good internal and external parasit prevention tools. Mine dont external but I just wormed for internal after seeing some in my turkey hens poo.

Beekissed- She is 2 1/2 years old. Her beak has just looked strange for maybe about 10 months. At first it looked like parts were flaking off.
The wart like things have been there about 2 months. I am going to a couple more places today to find the NuStock. I went to
TSC yesterday and they didn't have it. I might have to order it.

Delisha- oh that sounds so sad about no greens or sunlight :) I just started mine on the FF Saturday. They don't hate
It but it is taking them a while to warm up to it. Marlie, the beak problem chicken is real low on the pecking order and she is real
skittish. I was thinking I needed to separate her and make sure she gets the ff and some other nutritious goodies. I was just worried
about taking her away from the flock and then trying to put her back in. Everyone gets lots of greens and sunlight. They live in a 1/2 acre
fenced area and get 3 hrs everyday to range in a 10 acre area. They also get fresh kale and collard greens 2 times a week.

Internal: Pumpkin seeds, I put them in the food processor just to grind them a little then sprinkle on top of feed or ff. External, I first treated with Frontline which I'll not do again, [egg withdrawl] but then I found this thread so I have used neem oil on the roosts and also sprayed the cracks in the coop walls where they like to hide out, then i rubbed Nu stock on all the birds legs and also on the feathers around the vent of those that had them the worst, I also trimmed the feathers around the vent where they were so bad before applying the Nu stock.
