We could always post the Mad Vent...I posted it on my FB and never got one single comment. I don't think anyone knew what it was!

I'll bet no one knew what the mad vent was! It looked like something Jim Henson might have dreamed up!

I had to laugh! Everyone's perceptions of granny's are just gonna have to change, aren't they? My mother is granny to many and doesn't own any polyester either. She line dances and square dances and worked from daylight to dark yesterday on hauling brush, firewood and building herself a ground blind for hunting. She's 78 and puts all us youngsters to shame...some kind of granny!
My momma is 83 and still putting up jam, working in the orchard, sews, tends a veggie garden, and wants to be in all our buisness. We want her to rest more and she just laughs at us. I'm thinking your momma and my momma got good genes.

Well...I'm 59 and a Granny four times over. My hair is 40% grey to my waist when it's down and my Grand babies call me "Tu Tu" (Hawaiian for Grandmother)
I despise polyester and refuse to wear it or sew with it. Cotton, wool, or silk for me thank you very much. I still sew my own clothes and will for anyone in my family that requests it. I don't knit, hate rocking chairs. I grow my own vegetables, can or other wise preserve my own food. I live on an island and put up salmon, trout, Dungeness crab, and venison when I get my hands on it. My three daughters know how to cook, garden, and make jam because I taught them. My son can cook and hunts deer and elk with a bow. I love the Granny label when it fits. I am a Granny and proud to say so. Facebook is not that great anymore. Filled up with dumb jokes, religious, political, and other spam. And....way more cat pictures than chicken. Just sayin...
Cat pictures? thats funny. I'm only a Nana 3 X. your island sounds like a wonderful place to live.

Question on garlic...how much/gallon and does it matter on what kind is used? We have dried sliced and powdered.
Bee also mentioned a while back about using red pepper flakes in the FF...as in the kind from Dominos Pizza? Again, how much/gallon?

Since starting my FF, the kids eat it all up. I'm not sure if it's because they really like it or if I'm not giving them enough. I already have one 5 gallon pail cooking that I remove 2.5 gallons from each day. I think I need to fill another 5 gallon pail and that way one is cooking for more than 24 hours...

Not that I know of...at the feed store you have various sizes to choose from. I've never taken the time to measure how much mine holds. Maybe we could all do that sometime this week and report our findings?

And I'm thinking you are right! She always tells me that I'm put together cheap. And I always remind her that she and Dad were the ones to "put me together".

It doesn't matter. Yep, those are the same kind...just plain ol red pepper flakes. Was doing some reading about black pepper the other day and it was mentioned as a dewormer as well. I bet I don't have a worm one...everything I eat has to have a gallon of both in the bowl. Bee likes it HOT!!!

Hey everyone - Bee has given us so much wonderful information. I'd live to know what tidbits you personally have found the most helpful, the most surprising or have made the most impact on your chicken keeping!
Pretty much wnat Rachel said...

1.) Nurses are very inquisitive
2.) Old Bats are very clean
3.) Culling a chicken doesn't "have" to be messy
4.) Pay Attention to your birds
5.) Time will take care of a lot of things
6.) Don't sweat the small stuff
7.) Quit staring at the poop
8.) Nu Stock will cure just about all skin disorders, plus some others!!

Too much to list here, and some stuff I've gotten from the OT thread, I keep mixing the two up!!
