I think so too!

When Raggedy Ann started feeling better, she was often dirty with a spot here or there and I kept thinking, "What in the heck is she getting into that causes these spots?" Whatever it was, now Middle Sister has found it....

Those are impressive wts for DP birds!  Great looking, one and all!

The cabinet looking things are my nest boxes and the sliding doors for the outside access.

Wanna bet?  :D   In all my years I've never had chickens that free ranged like this last batch of meaties...it was worth documenting by video.  Sorry about the poor quality of the video...doing this for the first time and on my digital camera.

Wow, no kidding! Everyone who I've talked to about it in person, said they don't do well free ranging. You just proved them wrong. Beautiful property, and very active cornish X's!

Thanks as well :) I was pleased. The meat was so tasty. :D

I think that is a common misconception because they misunderstand the nature of the bird. They put out continuous feed for these birds and expect they will get far from that source of food. Or they put them in a tractor, again with free choice feed, and expect they will "forage" in a little 10X10 space covered in their own feces.

These meaties are extremely motivated to forage because they have an increased metabolism and hunger, so if you don't overfeed them and give them free reign in hunting for food, look out! They are foraging machines! Better than any DP breed I've ever owned in all these years. The meat was excellent...more like a DP bird in taste and texture.

I wish more people would raise them for meat...they get a bad name out there because of the way people have treated them. I find them funny and entertaining...and very moochy and lovey if you get to know them.

Also, these guys free range really well. I have heard that meaties don't.. ?

Bee, shame on you for not telling these babies they were supposed to sit in their own poo and never move from the feeders!!! I'm calling the Chicken Police! :gig

They are very loving in nature. Some will just follow you and do not mind being picked up and examined. It was a pleasure to me to see them flying and scooting across the grass today for the first time. I will keep a few hens if I have any. They look like a bunch of cockerels to me. Even the older group look like all cockerels.

awww..so cute. I should change mine. I think mine it is to broad. If I cut it in half I bet less poop would be on it. It is about 10 inches wide.
