And then there was this feeling afterward. That as a person eating meat, I fully understood what it is that I ingest, it was a life not to be taken lightly, but should be respected at all phases life and death. It's can be alot to wrap your head around...but as a carnivore you owe those animals that.
That's what I was trying to express...a life is not to be taken lightly but respected at all phases of life and death.

Well said.

I know that seems silly to a lot of people...that we see killing an animal as a form of respect, but there it is. It is a form of the utmost care and respect for that animal. I wouldn't trust that killing of my animals to too many people...bad enough that I trusted their care to the wrong people, I was determined if they were going to die it was going to be done by me. No more dying as a result of sickness and suffering and poor care.

Thank goodness someone said something! I was starting to think they were tying the ropes and heading up the posse to come over here and lynch me...

Truly, I don't often voice strong opinions unless someone asks or brings up the subject...so be careful what you ask me. I will tell it like I see it.

No tar and feathers here, Bee. Thanks for speaking up!

Bee have you ever watched the documentary "Food, Inc."? It's really quite a testimony to how these animals are treated and the small time farmer in our world of industrialized food. It might have been the jump start (unconsciously) for my chicken keeping...although I've always wanted to do it...but if you haven't seen it, pick it up at your video rental store.

I own it! It is surely a real eye opener...but I will tell you this. I gave it to one lady who asked to see it but she didn't watch it all the way through and said it was "too graphic" and " too harsh" to show to her teenage girls. Kind of gave me the stink eye for not giving her the heads up on the inappropriateness of this film for the viewing of young adults....

I added a statement to my post about killing of animals and I will reprint that here....just to clear up any misunderstandings it might have left in people's minds.

ETA to the post about killing chickens: I just wanted to add something here and I don't know how to say it but I feel it must be said. I reread this post and it sounds so judgemental if you are standing on the opposite side of this viewpoint. I am sorry to sound that way and it was not my intention. I'm merely showing how my mind worked and how it got to this conclusion...how I moved from someone who cannot kill an animal into someone who can.

I don't mean it to be a statement or judgement on others but when someone asks me how they can move from one viewpoint into another, it is the only way I know to tell them.

Of course, in the end, we can only do what we feel is right in the eyes of God and within our own consciences in this life and that is sometimes different for all people. I am sorry if this sounded like I don't respect those who will not kill an animal for food. I'm not saying that..I'm merely saying how I had to examine my own mind to get to where I am today on this issue.

You forgot: "I'm Beekissed and I approve this message."

I used to not really care about such niceties of interaction with others....what you see is what you get. I'm trying very much not to be so hard edged. It's a constant learning curve to learn how to couch hard truths in a soft package. I'm still learning....

Now...on a more chicken based thought. Today is very windy....VERY. I was up to the coop earlier and was gratified to not feel a single breeze...but to still note the air being fresh and not stale. I think this coop is now winterized to my satisfaction! It is pretty snug and has lots of natural light..this makes me very happy.

My birds have been in the coop for the past few hours doing who knows what in there, then it started to rain and they came out and started foraging. Crazy birds! The wind is practically blowing them across the yard and they are out in it.

Have we seen a photo of your most up-to-date, winterized coop yet?
