caught a deer hound chasing my chickens yesterday.could have shot the dog but instead caught it, put it on tie cord and called owner from number on collar. they picked up the dog after dark and didn't even thank me. will shoot the next one.

I've had that exact experience...going the extra mile to be nice to a neighbor over and over, despite his dog causing monetary damage at my home, killing my meat rabbits and destroying cages, my garage door and, last but not least...breaking off each and every one of my pepper plants in my garden.

I kept hearing this noise as I'm hoeing the garden..sort of a snip, snip, snip noise. I look around and the defiantly evil mutt was standing in the row glaring at me and all my foot tall pepper plants were lying neatly severed in the rows behind him. I bought him collars and tie outs, brought the dog back to his house for him, told him over and over about the dog's continued harassment of my animals and property. A shrug of the shoulders and a sheepish smile was all that I got for my troubles...not one attempt to restrain the animal. In fact, after I had tied the dog up at his place he immediately freed him to run the neighborhood again.

Now I just SSS. There is no point in dragging things out and trying to be nice to someone that selfish and careless with their animals and they clearly don't even value the animal at all, so it's really no emotional loss to them, I'm thinking.
How much is everyone paying for sulfur? And how big of a bag?

$6 and some tax for 1lb at Lowes.

I recently picked up some young easter eggers from 3 months down to about 6 weeks when I got them a couple weeks ago. I've been watching them as much as I can to see their personalities as well as to start making decisions on the boys. Well one of the youngest is really pretty; don't know what you would call this color, blue partridge maybe? But I love it. However as you can see she has an extreme case of wry tail ;-(

She holds it at that extreme angle all the time. I will be letting the person I got these from about it. I'm not sure if these were hatched from her own stock or were eggs she traded for. Seems she buys/trades a lot of eggs and has lots of small hatches for fun. I'm thinking this girl may never lay an egg or if she does will have problems with egg binding. So I will be culling her when she gets older.

I have a story!
This morning when I let the chickens out I noticed a dog roaming around the peremeter of our backyard. Didn't worry about it because we have the three rail and goat wire all the way around. So I let my dogs out, because Waffle thinks he's awesome, and needed to go get that dog. I came in the house and the girls and I decorated the tree, for about an hour, and heard no issues outside. I looked out real quick and the stray was about an acre away from our back acre, and I stopped thinking about him. Ten minutes later I hear Waffle going crazy barking, and as some of you might know, Bostons don't bark much at all. So I look out and he's in the barn going off on something. I of course throw on shoes and run out there, since there shouldn't be anything to bark at in the barn. I get in there and Waffle is whining at the closed gate, which is between two stalls...I look over the gate and there's Lola, one of the red sex links, laying on the cube of shavings. I automatically get excited, go through the gate, gently pick her up and there it is, our first eggs! I figure she was doing her egg song, and freaked Waffle out.
The egg is literally perfect. Solid all around, and BIG. I absolutely think the FF is the reason.
The white one is an extra large store egg. Can you believe how big her first eggs is?

Since Waffle went all nutso about the egg song I've decided I'll leave the run door closed in the mornings till about ten. Also I've got to get these girls in the nest boxes, and not laying eggs all over the other areas of the barn.
Yay!

Went out just a few min ago to take some pics of my bantam who had the gleet to show what a difference the ff and the nu stock has made, well there is a big difference in the way she looks over all but when close examination with all the feathers back there there is still some gook coming out of her bottom the whitish kind,

But it must not be near as potent as it was because she has grown all her feathers back and looks so healthy, so i have not given up on her just need to start up the better butter routine again, I hadn't put any on her for about 2weeks. Over all though there is a huge difference in her appearance, and the fact that she has feathers on her bottom well it's amazing, so I will put off pics till she is 100% and then we'll diff have bragging rights. Granny Bee first of course since she is the one who started this whole thing. and me well I'll just be pleased as punch that she is a healthy girl, they are such wonderful broodies and mamas I would have been very sad to have lost her.

Bee,
I have just started my 4 week olds (4) on FF. We leave for work at 7:30.....how much FF do I put in brooder to leave until I get home-2:45?
I have it in regular chick feeder....smells nice, kind of like yeast working. They are not really excited about it right now, but want them to have the best....
Love you!

I am not Bee, however I would start with 1/2 cup each. If they are small bread, possibly 1/3 cup each. When you come home, if there is less than 1/2, you are ok if it is more than 1/2 left, add less next time. If it is empty you need to add a bit more.(doubt it will be empty, but ya never know).

My heavy breed chicks eats about a 1 1/2 cups each day. They are RIR over Cornish X. I could probably feed them 3 cups a day and they would eat it.
