I was so excited to see some of my ducks and 1 of my geese trying the ff today, usually the chickens come running like I just made them chocolate cake but to see my other birds eating it was a good feeling.

I know some of my birds took to it easy and a few of them took more time. My second gander, Mr. Goose, is still getting used to it. He seems to fluctuate between finding nasty and fascinating. His girl, Mrs. Goose likes it any way its offered so I try to make their share a bit soupier as it stops him from wasting so much. All my ducks seem to be liking it really well now. I had only a few holdouts.

Hi Everyone ... I lost track .... can someone list the natural dewormers again .... I believe I read somewhere in this thread to use pumpkin seeds? Is this fresh from the pumpkin or dried? I think I also read mixing garlic in their food? Is this fresh grated garlic? Is there anything else? Thanks

I do not agree with tons of it....I finally stopped reading.

Disinfecting, treating, isolation, vaccination, biosecurity...same old stuff with a "new" organic label...blah, blah, blah....what complicated things to have to remember for every little disease and such. It's so incredibly simple to keep a flock healthy that this manual is ridiculous. If you have all that disease in your flocks in the first place, you have already made every mistake there is. Real organic flock health management doesn't deal with all these issues because they never come up....start out right, continue right and no matter where you live in the country you shouldn't be running into all these various diseases or maladies.

That is what this thread is trying to tell you folks...it doesn't have to be a three ring circus to keep flocks healthy nor return them to health once they've lost it due to poor management. If you are currently mismanaging your flocks to the degree that you need this manual, you have bigger problems than trying to find out the organic way to treat a disease.
You are right about that, and my flock has not had health issues in the 4 years I've been keeping chickens. We've had predators (bobcats and coyotes) and injuries. I like to know how to treat injuries. We now have guard llamas because goats will attract packs of coyotes. We've had electrical fencing for about 3 years. The bobcats were jumping up on the round wooden posts. We now have sheet metal on top of those (looks like a tin can sitting about 4 inches above the post). I think the sheet metal has finally done the trick:) Our lab is full-grown now and she even chases wild turkeys off the property. We did have a bobcat attack recently in September and DH went to shut off the electrical fence to check out the fencing. Guess what? It was off for 2 months! He was doing something with the llama shelter a few months ago (it's close to the fence) and he forgot to turn it back on...lost a hen and a rooster was injured. The rooster is fine now.
