YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bee's wisdom is too much to lose..........Now Bee....answer my question about using a heated dog waterer for FF in the winter..................Tee Hee Love you all!

Of course i am not Bee but I use a heated dog bowl when the temps dip below freezing to keep the ff from freezing, they run by thermostat so when it gets to above 35 they don't run,. I just like the idea that when it's really cold my flock is not trying to eat frozen ff. just my 2cents.

We've been debating that over on the OT lately. Nicki is doing meaties for the first time this spring and she lives up in God's country in my state, so I offered to motor up and give a tutorial on processing. That is kind of snowballin' and folks are wanting to join the party and she is liking the concept. Could be we'll have a processing class if this keeps up!

She was all excited and told folks she works with that the BEE was coming to help her butcher chickens. I told her that I'm sure they were all impressed by someone whose only distinction is that she is real good at ripping the guts out of chickens.

All of WV is "God's Country", IMO, so not sure exactly where in the state that would be but I'm certainly interested. I'm in Virginia and am a bit familiar with WV so am hopeful it wouldn't be too far away.

You managed to get me interested in growing chickens for meat and my daughter is interested, too. Talked to DH - who was raised processing chickens - and he said "You'll have to process them yourself."

Okay, Buster, Game On! However, a hands-on tutorial would be good. And, NO, he's not getting even a leg! ^_^

Ran across this video... found some parts (flock communication & learning behaviors) rather fascinating. They do some experiments with battery hens to see how fast they learn and how fast they are able to revert back to a more natural state. Kinda cool.

Wonderful video! Thanks

Thank you Miss Lydia.....that's exactly what I was wondering if someone had tried......thank you

Regarding the hatching egg route. Been there. Done that. Cheaper and better in the long run to just get a started trio. I recently acquired a trio from a breeder that cost about the same as the money I've spent on hatching eggs through the mail in the last 2 + years. From those eggs? I have nothing to scream about. This trio though, is looking good. I heartily agree with those that put me down and belittled me and called me an idiot for getting hatching eggs. Only I got nothing from those who did that :gig

Still, in the long run, hatching eggs are a crap shoot. I got zero hatches from 4 dozen of the eggs shipped. And 50% on two of the dozens. Then around 30% on one of the dozens. The way the mail is, you'll not do better than 50% I don't think unless you're lucky that you aren't far from where they are mailed from and a large postal facility (with a conveyer belt setup) doesn't process them. They will get dropped. And you will have free floating/busted air sacs otherwise.

Just got my BEE Thankful mug (merry Christmas to myself!) I haven't yet figured out how to load a picture of it, but it looks just like BDM's. It's very nice & well made. Yes, steep for a coffee mug, but I will just pretend to be drinking coffee with y'all while I read along. THAT is well worth the cost! Such good conversation/teaching/asking/learning. Thanks, everybody! Thank YOU, BullDogMa for turning us on to Zazzle.

BEE has left a new comment on your post "Bee Answers Your Natural Chicken Feeding Questions...":

"I've prayed about it, Leigh and I would not like any more of my content placed on the site. You can keep what you currently have but please do not quote anymore of my words, if you don't mind. I'm worried about the words being changed from their original intent or content.

I'm sorry about all the inconvenience but you can continue to build on the site and I hope it does well for you."

Going forward I will harvest as much existing information off of this thread and the OT thread and put it into my own words. Hopefully at very least we can keep this valuable information available.

I'm sorry everyone!

Wondering...does this mean Bee won't be posting to The Road thread, here, anymore??? Bee?
Or does this only apply to the BDM blog?
Sorry to hear this, in any event. Bee's wisdom has touched many, and the blog just got the word out to more folks, who really needed some information beyond the usual BYC drivel.
