Bulldogma, I am having issues with publishing. I publish under anonymous because I have no idea what the selections are. Those little tests are hard to read. I usually have to do it a few times.
Delisha - If it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother me! It's just great getting regular activity out there to show folks are visiting! Thank you SO much!

I love how you are setting up these pages! So much is tied into the original post and the pic of the fat around the vent was an excellent illustration for the topic. I'm so impressed by you every time I see that site, BDM!

Bee - I'm having a lot of fun with this! As far as sponsors, if those toots don't get back to me this week, I start calling and bugging them - LOL! I'm also researching who else to stalk... ahem... I mean "contact." It is always hit or miss, but it is ALWAYS worth a try! I think the information you share is amazing and I think a LOT of other folks will think so too. Honestly... I have felt twinges of guilt taking credit for simply editing/sharing your wise words. Then again, I think we make a pretty great team and I feel lucky that I'm the one who gets to put your wisdom out there! I already think of you as the big sister I someday hope to meet!

I think it's the mites and I would make sure you really get the NS in that area...it seems to be such a tasty place for them to feast!

I'd give it a week, then recheck everyone and reapply whether they are improving or not. If once is good, twice is better!
OK, a week will work better with my crazy work schedule anyway. Tho I have managed to get a little extra time off this week. Got some plastic up on the coops, the rabbit hutches to cut the wind and covered the greenhouse.

You can see pics of my mobile coop in this blog post: http://edible-garden.blogspot.com/2012/08/mobile-chicken-coop.html Today all I did was cover one long side and the far end with plastic all the way to the ground; that way even if they are hanging out underneath they have a little wind break. I found some old tent poles to prop up the sides with so lots of light inside. The floor is wire and the plastic really helped reduce the wind inside but I don't think they will hurt for ventilation. I figure if our weather gets really bad I could cover the wire with pieces of cardboard and some bedding, then just pull it all out in the spring. I have a few design changes for the next one, but I like the basic configuration of this one.

I'm just blown away and very honored that you would even fool with all my drivel! That you are doing all this work and even getting sponsor is just out of this world...I couldn't have done that for all the tea in China!

I guess I just don't have the confidence that you have. My family thinks all this chicken stuff is a big joke and when I talk about it at all they kind of make fun of me...even the Bat.

To them, chickens just ain't no thang and they can't believe that there are so many people into learning about raising them. Around here chickens are just like the scenery...something you just take for granted and you don't think about much. They eat eggs and chicken but they don't talk about them or write about them~ barely ever think about them.

Lot's of ventilation possibilities in that coop! I love all the windows and the ability for flow through of air. Does it get cold in the winter where you live?

Some cold; probably not near what you get. An average winter the coldest nights during bad storms will run down in the teens, the rest of the time somewhere between 22 & 32. Last winter I think we hit 22 a couple times and that was it. Average winters we'll get a nice snow in Nov or Dec, melts off in a day. A little heavier, colder, stick around longer in Jan then a warmish spell in Feb, then cold again. Then you think it's spring in April and it snows 5 inches and shuts the whole town down for three days ;-) The next week it's 80!

My really major worry is heat in the summer 110 most years. The way I've made the shutters it helps give a little more shade. Thinking about those cattle panels tho; one of those on light weight skids covered in shade cloth would be great in the summer for a nice cool spot for them. I might could even park the coop under it.....

Yay Bee and Bulldogma for the joint effort! Getting the word out to folks who need to know is the whole point of the internet (in my opinion)!
My people think I am nuts for being so chicken-obsessed. so it's nice to be among old fashioned chicken people, and have all this wisdom in a few easy-to-use places!
Thank you both for your efforts!!!

I do like their versatility...some folks make a lower arch than mine and use them for field houses for that very reason...for the shade. I think they have potential for many kinds of shelter. I first used them for my sheep to have a lounging shed for the winter...I loved it and so did the sheep. That one didn't have a wood base..it was just fastened to T post and it was so incredibly sturdy that it didn't move in the highest winds on record for our area that winter..and shed the nearly 3 ft. of snow like it was nothing.

acne treatment.

step 1
Grind up 4 aspirin, and 1 vitamin C pill

Step 2
Add a couple drops of lemon juice, Add 1 - 2 drops of ammonia
Mix well! The aspirin and juice/citric acid will form salicylic acid.

It needs to be thickened... Add a tiny amount of hemorrhoid ointment/cream (anti-inflammatory, gets rid of redness) and toothpaste (very drying, good for whiteheads) you should end up with a paste that sticks to the skin very well.

Cover acne

Let it dry on the skin. When it's dry enough that it falls off, wash with Dove hand soap and apply ACV.
Is this for hives also?

I helped butcher broilers as a kid. looking back that was just...... life on the farm....... we butchered our own livestock all the time. I think its easier if you grow up with it, sort of "toughens you up". Last year i helped my mom butcher a few meaties with no problem- their purpose was for food/BBQ. However, I've gotten soft because i hope "my" hens die of old age before making the soup pot.! LOL !

We had to cull a crossbeak chick in the beginning..wow that was horrible week, that's when i knew these chickens would be pets..and not livestock for me. However i am not against raising a few broilers( at my moms house of course.)

I have coworkers and friends that don't understand "how can you kill a deer? they are so pretty." How many deadly car accidents have occurred due to deer!? I had to remind someone of that today.. I look at deer as healthy lean meat just as any other wild game/livestock. Yes i do feel a little sad-but its more of that respectful feeling, making sure it was a humane harvest ,and thanking god for providing. all animals have their part/purpose in this world some as pets and others for food i guess.
