The rooster must go!

uugggghh...roosters

That said, I wouldn't raise a flock without one. I don't know why, but if I don't have a roo, there seems to be feather pulling/hen mounting/bully-ing ("you can't eat out of MY feeder") issues. I am starting to look at my coop design, wondering if there is an issue with the layout? I love the way the rooster keeps everyone in line, looks out for the flock (his head is up while the hens' heads are down, and then there is that possiblity of making more (!) chickens, and, well, they are so darn purdy.
I hope you can find a rooster that DW trusts. How about a Cochin? Big fluffy balls of feathers, watchful, and rather mellow.

I'm having the same issues. I have 2 male australorps which are supposed to be mellow and one has chased both my daughters. Today the neighbor boy,javascript:insert_text('

and I am thinking he days are numbered. My girls also won't go outside if they are out. That isn't what I wanted to have when we decided to have chickens. Then if the other does the same, it's bye bye for him too. I will try and take care of it myself. Good luck.

I had a very aggressive rooster and all the behavior training did nothing for him I bought a water bottle that really squirted and used that on him I never left the house with out my bottle. I have since dispatched the rooster when it started going after my dog so the water bottle helped. but he was delicious.

my new Brahma roo is friendly and quite a gentleman!!

Good luck

I still say there's nothing funnier then a 4 lb silkie roo chasing a cocky 7 year old who thinks it's ok to poke at the bird with the toe of his sneakers... I rehomed the silkie, and taught my son about consequences. That said, I was attacked by my beautiful Leghorn Roo Godzilla. He spurred my face so badly my eye and sinuses became infected. He was soup within 24 hours. I have no room for an aggressive bird. I also am of the camp that a flock with a rooster is a happier flock. I have a docile silkie mix that sounds the alarm when hawks fly over etc. He's never attacked my children and he's 2 years old. Trust and know he'd be in the crock pot if he ever did.
