Goofy birds, I can get a few out at a time, but not everyone wants to brave the big world. I opened the pop door this morning, and a few birds came out while I was in the run. Now they're all back inside. How can I get them to come out of their coop?

    Thanks, Sonja

Chickens like habit and the known. New stuff freaks them out, at first. Give them time.

Thanks Dave! 2 of my roos, and my 6 weekers are a little more adventerous. They come out from time to time, but rest of the crew likes hagnin' at home. It's funny they seem to be more willing to come out when there are people around. Goofy birds!!

  4. They like you to take the risk and sit out with them. Or mine did. They're good now and it's a special treat when I take an hour to play with them in the run.

It took about 3 or 4 hours for my chickens to start coming out of the coop.

Just wait, They will come out - believe me, they will learn to come out all too soon. Then in the mornings when you go to open the door and JUMP back out of the way --- cause it will look like a bunch of kids running off the school bus on the last day of school!!!!!! [IMG]

Woohoo!! They figured it out. Today is day 3 in the run. Sure enough I opened the door and 14 of my 22 came running out. [IMG] It looked like the brides at a Filene's wedding dress sale. In a matter of minutes there were only 4 left in the coop, and that group rarely heads out.
