The Sacrifice - A medieval fantasy RP

As Marlo approached, Dulirn stepped back to allow her to pass by him, seeming oblivious to her glare.

The dining room was, as promised, much cleaner than the sitting room, but still showed signs of disrepair. The carpet was faded and worn, the table legs were carved with intricate designs, but cracked and chipped. The table had been set with two place settings and a fine spread laid out with a roasted duck, warm bread, baked potatoes, and wine in rich goblets.

"I hope you are hungry," Dulirn said. He jerked his hand slightly and the chair closest to them slid out slightly. "Please, have a seat."

Marlo stopped in the doorway and took a good look around the room before taking a hard seat in the chair Dulirn had indicated, making it scrape back against the floor with a loud grinding sound. If he thought she was going to be greatful for the meal after locking her in that room, he was sadly mistaken. She whipped her head away from the door, refusing to look at him and switched the bow to her other hand, still holding tightly onto it. It was then that she noticed the table was only set for two. "Is Urir not joining us?" She asked coldly.

Dulirn sat down in the second chair. He raised his eyebrows, seeming surprised at the question, then dismissed it with a wave. "Oh, Urir doesn't want to join, I'm sure. He's really quite anti-social."

As if on cue, Urir followed the pair into the dining room, but kept walking and then disappeared through the far door that seemed to go into the kitchen. Next to the kitchen door hung a portrait covered in a layer of dust and cobwebs, a young man clad in rich finery but also rather unattractive, with deep set eyes and a large hooked nose.

Marlo's eyes followed the back of Urir's head until he disappeared through the second door, then were drawn to the ugly man in the portrait. Is everyone who's ever been through this place so... odd looking? She wondered, glancing at Dulirn for a second to compare the images. They looked maybe related, but there was too much dust covering the old glass to tell for sure. She opened her mouth to say something rude about the man and maybe insult Dulirn further, then closed it slowly. Being rude certainly made her feel better... somewhat. But maybe if she was... well... nice, he would let her go. So instead she simply asked: "Friend of yours?"

The wizard's eyes followed hers to the dusty portrait of the young man. "Urir? Of course. He is a most loyal companion, even if he is not much for conversation."

"Please, don't be shy," Dulirn said as he gestured to the food and started helping himself to the meal.

Marlo frowned, the portrait didn't look much like Urir, but who was she to judge? It didn't matter anyways, and Dulirn had already changed the subject. When he encouraged her to eat, she began reaching across the table, then froze suddenly, her hand suspended in mid-air. What if the food was poisoned? She cast a suspicious glance at Dulirn and drew her hand back abruptly. "You poisoned it, didn't you..." She accused.

"Why on earth would I do such a thing!" Dulirn exclaimed, looking shocked that she would even suggest such ill intentions. "No, no dear Lady Marlo, I wish you very much alive and well," he said, a hint of the madness creeping back into his voice. He took a bite of the roasted duck and a sip of his wine, as if to demonstrate that nothing was poisoned.

"Oh I don't know," she shot back sarcastically. "Maybe because you've kidnapped me!" She slammed her fist down on the table, making the utensils rattle against the other dishes. "That'd be your first clue, Sherlock!" The moment she finished her mini rant she regretted even opening her mouth. Dulirn was crazy, driven mad by something. The last thing she wanted to do was make him angry.

The wizard's eyes darkened at Marlo's outburst and he stood quickly when she rattled the table, the magical energies cracking again at his fingertips. "Unappreciative wench!" The dining room dimmed noticeably as the candle flames grew smaller. Dulirn brought his hands close together, entwining his fingers and as he did so, vines sprung from Marlo's chair, grasping at the girl, attempting to bind her to the seat.

Marlo screamed and jumped to her feet so fast the chair would have flew backwards if it hadn't been half attached to her. The bow clattered to the floor as she clawed at the vines with both hands while flailing her arms in attempt to stop them wrapping themselves around her body. "I'm sorry!" She looked desperately at Dulirn "Please stop... I'm sorry!!"
