The sex fairy arrived

Whoops, wasn't paying enough attention. Another poster had a pic of their mis-sexed cockerel and I thought it was yours. Yours is an EE, and I agree a likely male.
That’s ok! But I wish you disagreed on Easter being male :hit.
His temperament has completely changed though and he is very unfriendly now, so maybe it won’t be so hard to send him to his new home. Just hoping my BO I’m worried about doesn’t experience a sex change also:rolleyes:.

I would go with option #3, with maybe waiting even 2 years before adding new pullets to stagger the egg production.

If your daughter is upset that she won't get colored eggs from her EE "pullet", you can let her know there wouldn't be any blue/green eggs from this bird even if it were female. He isn't an EE; hard to tell from the pic but he could be a speckled Sussex. Assuming this person got hatchery chicks for resale and they aren't barnyard mixes.
No he is a speckled Sussex. We have a wide variety of breeds, .
7 month old-
3 silver laced (1 boy, 2 girls)
3 Rhode Island Red girls
2 Barred girls
2 Black Sex link girls

7 week old-
3 EE girls

6 week old-
Speckled Sussex (boy)
Welsummer
Cochin
Lakenvelder
Maran
Black Star
Lavender orphinton

It makes nightly head count difficult. Haha

I think I would go with the started ones same age. Then when you integrate be sure there's lots of room for them to establish their pecking order. If they are the same size and age they shouldn't really hurt each other. Be good to pen them next to each other for week or so. Free ranging together is a safe way to get used to each other. Seems to go smoothly. I think if they are only about three months old it will go smoother too. Old hens can be more stubborn. Sexing chicks is a difficult art. Expect mistakes.

Glad you found a new home for your boy. Any of the options will work. I do staggered hatches so I usually have some different age chicks in the same coops. They will chest bump as they are sorting out their pecking order. I had a female that should have been culled but was missed, she was a cross beak. She was around 4 months old when I separated her from her flock because of her special needs. She turned out to be a love. She would come when called and loved to be with us and loved to be held. She was indeed special. One day after I had let her out I got sidetracked and a fox snuck up and got her. I cried for several days. I missed my Gladys. She was 3 years old when the fox got her. I did get the fox.
Sorry for you loss :hugs
I lost my two favorite chickens within a two weeks period and boy it really hurts. I’m glad you got the fox. I’m still trying to figure out what took mine. They were my very first hatch that I hand raise myself :hit

We decided on the baby chicks from the feed store. Fingers crossed for better luck!!! Unfortunately they didn’t get in the buffs, but are getting the barred rocks and have some Easter eggers left. So if it wasn’t for my 8 year old I would wait, but she is devastated about Easter’s gender change.
I never heard back about the pullets so that took that option out.
