Hey guys! This is a story I've decided to write. It's based off my RP, The Legend of Rainea. I hope you like it! I'll post chapter updates in my siggy.
Prologue
The majestic black and white paint mare stood on a large cliff, overlooking a stunning green valley. A soft, gentle breeze brushed through her mane, and the sunlight raining down upon her pelt made it shine like the stars. She was Nakota, the guardian of the valley of Rainea. For almost a thousand years she had defended Rainea from harm, with the help of the other six guardians. Peace had reigned for several hundred years now.
She closed her eyes for several seconds, taking in the soft breeze, but snapped her eyes open abruptly as she felt a miniscule, barely discernable quaking of the ground. She blinked uneasily, quickly shaking the dark thoughts from her mind. No, it was just some young creature discovering their power to create earthquakes. It had to be.
"Hey Nakota!" A bright, cheery voice said from behind her. Nakota breathed a sigh of relief.
"Strider!" A deeper voice snapped, "she is the guardian of the valley! Be respectful!"
Nakota chuckled, "oh, Rakada, it's alright. He's just a foal."
Rakada sighed, walking off in the trees with her foal. Strider just gawked at Nakota as he was practically dragged away by his mother.
Nakota smiled, feeling relief course through her body. That was most likely the cause; Strider was probably just discovering his powers.
But this time, the same tremor happened again, but this time, it was stronger. This wasn't a young creature discovering their powers. An eerie silence filled the air as a chilly breeze ruffled Nakota's fur. She twitched her ears uneasily, could it be? She felt a shiver run down her spine. She hoped it was just because of the particularly cool draft. She walked down into a field of grass by the valley, beginning to graze. This time, she wasn't absorbed in happy thoughts. Instead, dark thoughts plagued her mind. Horrors that no creature in modern Rainea had ever even begun to fathom; Rainea was considered to be paradise, after all. But what Nakota was thinking of, had happened. And she feared it was coming again. She hoped that maybe she was just imagining the tremors, or that the General's army was just doing power drills. But deep down, she knew this was just wishful thinking, and a terrible feeling of dread came over her.
The terrible memory flashed again.
Seven creatures surrounded a wolf, who was fading into a mist. "You can't keep me away forever," he said softly, his voice being carried by a soft breeze, "I will be back, and this time I won't fail..." With that, he completely faded into the mist and was blown away by some unseen wind.
Nakota's eyes snapped open. She knew exactly what it was. The wind that was blowing... it was the same breeze that blew on that terrible night.
Again, she felt a tremor. It was much stronger than the first two; while mild it would be hard to not notice it. Nakota's legs became wobbly. It all fit together far too well.
He was back.
