the shells are really hard is this normal

Our eggshells are really thick and hard, too. I actually dropped one of ours on the ground and it didn't break! I think it's just an example of what good nutrition and sunshine will do. Almost any backyard eggs will have thicker shells than the store eggs. When you see how the hens are kept, it's no wonder why...
 
I have tried everything over the years. For the last year I have been putting salt and a splash of vinegar in the water and about 90% peel great even if fresh. Don't know if that's why, but I will keep it up until proven otherwise!
 
I actually learned the salt and VERY COLD water trick from my mom years and years ago. Guess it came from her being around all natural foods when she was growing up. Yummmm, farm fresh milk, cream and eggs.
