The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Zoichick I want your rooster! I have been looking all over for a young SLW roo and cant find one anywhere!

Thank you Cyrus83. This is the boy I had shipped in from Jerry Foley last year as an 11 month old. He was gorgeous, but alas was killed by my own dog. This years one and only cockerel is just getting to start with the ladies. Learning still. He is pretty nice, but not as nice as this one Jerry sent. I am raising some 6 week old cockerels from Chickenhill. A couple of them are looking very interesting. One big slow feathering boy in particular has captured my attention, but we have a long way to go. Need to get photos when it dries out a little from this mornings snow
(in Califoria)

Anyway Jerry sometimes has mostly grown cockerels for sale, maybe you can get one from him now.

Here is the cockerel I have this year and with a couple of his hens in the last photo.

Gorgeous birds!!! I lost most of my SLWs last year to either my dog or a hawk. :( I'm hoping to replace some of them this year! Seems like when you loose one its always a favorite or expensive one! :(

Definitely always the expensive one. :barnie

I love how they stand out against the green grass which is rare here in California with our drought.

I hope you can find replacements. It has taken me several years to find and get a few grown out. Now I just need the boy to learn how to mate. LOL He's trying and gaining in expertise. So I have hope now that he's approaching a year.

This is my present boy as a youngster..He was a cute baby.

He a Was a cutie!! I have a SL quad as well but two of them are hatchery birds I bought as adults for laying hens. My roo is getting the job done with my hens. He and the pullet I got with him are pretty much inseparable so I decided to name the Romeo and Juliet. :) I'm hoping to get some hatching eggs this year and try hatching some chicks out. One of my BCM hens is going broody and I'd love to have her hatch some chicks out.

I have two roosters from Jerry Foley lines. One has more "smuttiness" in his hackle and saddle feathers. How bad a fault is that?

Probably pretty bad if you want BIS chickens. :/ The cleaner the better.

All of mine are from breeders. 2 pretty hens from Peaky Beaky in the East and a pair from Chickenhill in the West Both have Foley lines tho Peaky Beaky has mixed in some other lines as well. . All are quite gorgeous, but all have "some" smuttiness nearer the tail feathers. They all have lacing down the thigh.

Are your hatchery slw's kind of on the dark side for color? Now I just have to learn what to choose in the babies :D

Anyone know what kind of combs most golden/silver laced wyandottes have? Because I've heard of some having rose comb and others with a single comb. Also would you happen to know what kind of comb this chicken has:

These are my five SLW's, they want a rooster in their life. [/quote :thumbsup Very pretty! Alas my boys are only a little over 5 weeks. Well the yearling who is only now learning to breed. He was 9 or 10 months in the photo posted and has filled out, but that one stays until we find out how the little ones turn out  :yiipchick :plbb
