The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Oh no, they all have fancy fluffy butts behind their beautiful feathers. They remind me of can can girls. I am hoping that my Cherry gets those beautiful adult feathers. She is still a pullet, so we are waiting to see what her moult brings.

Can Can girls??? Thats hysterical & the perfect description!

I love my SLW girls. They amazed me by beginning to lay at 20 weeks! I get a lovely deep brown (compared to my Chocolate Orpington) egg nearly everyday so far! It appears that they are laying every 26-28 hours, so 6 eggs per week. They are hatchery stock but still very pretty.

Well, not trying to be rude or anything, but if you are looking to start a breeding program, it would make more sense to breed quality birds than hatchery ones. Especially if you are looking to sell chicks or hatching eggs down the road, people will appreciate better quality. If they wanted hatchery birds, they would just order from the hatchery after all. I recommend looking into some quality breeders, it will cost you a bit more but will be well worth it. Here are some places you should try out:

I agree. The initial cost of the birds is nothing compared to the cost of raising them and your time. I am still looking for a SLW pullet and almost went for hatchery stock--until I realized that hatcheries frequently show pictures on their websites and catalogs of birds that are close to perfection --NOT their own birds. With SLW --there is a BIG difference. I don't need perfect, but I want a fluffy girl with crisp lacing!

I agree with you on the lacing. I am hoping as my girls transition from pullets to hens that the coloring will improve. I have also ordered some chicks from a reputable dealer and am looking forward to them arriving, on March 28th. I am hoping that with selective breeding and time I will get the perfect SLW. I, of course, will always believe that my first girl is beautiful just the way she is. She has some great coloring in front, the back needs work.

I raised and sold two dozen birds in three different batches before I decided to bite the bullet and have good stock shipped in. There is a HUGE difference in SLW just like you say. Well done on with your patients and persistence.

So excited to see the new stock I will be getting on March 18th. I finally found a breeder who breeds for perfection and not for cash! I will finally have the "perfect" Wyandotte that I have been hoping for here.

This is the place!

One of the other people here told me about it. They have pictures of their chickens that they breed and have for sale. Of course, not so much the chicks ans the chickens themselves. I will be an optimist forever, I cannot be cured! I will always will expect that people are honest, but I heard from others that they are good!

(I wish people would spell things right in their specialty! Just checked the Fayetteville site for a quick look see, and they spelled "cockerel" wrong and "Wheaten." This doesn't mean they're not good--I just have such a pet peeve about that kind of stuff! Kind of like the people that own Wheaten Terriers and write "Wheaton Terriors." Ugh. Drives me nuts!)

Hey guys, got my first 2 wyandottes yesterday and I try to pick a pair but they're like a month and a half old. I know I picked a rooster but I'm hoping I got a pullet also. I'll post pics in a bit.

My 100% Cockerel, sorry for the bad photos I had to use the flash

I'll take day time pictures tomorrow, his comb is pretty red.
Now what i hope is my pullet

I think a month or two and I'll definitely know for sure.
