The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

(I wish people would spell things right in their specialty! Just checked the Fayetteville site for a quick look see, and they spelled "cockerel" wrong and "Wheaten." This doesn't mean they're not good--I just have such a pet peeve about that kind of stuff! Kind of like the people that own Wheaten Terriers and write "Wheaton Terriors." Ugh. Drives me nuts!)
Unfortunately spelling has gone the way of the dodo! People rely on spell check too often, this is crippling our society for spelling. I see people use to, two, and too wrong all of the time. Another of my pet peeves is the proper usage of their, there, and they're. We all learned proper usage in grade school, please return if you cannot use them correctly.
I was able to talk to the gentleman at the hatchery and I was impressed with his knowledge of wyandottes, and with his selective breeding program. What a great guy. Too bad he is a horrible speller!

I purchased a couple of silver laced whyanndotts chicks at Rural King. Very similar looking as you can see, except that one of them has a rose comb and the other has a single comb. They were in the same bin, in the silver laced whyanndott bin. Can someone tell me if it's possible that the one with the single comb not be a whyanndott at all.

Just jumping in this thread and saying Hi!
We just joined BYC and started back into raising chickens again.Currently have 6 SLW pullets that are being spoiled daily.

Blessings from our farm to yours!

I am really liking the temperament of my SLW hens. I kept 5 Dark Cornish roosters, now 6mo, and they are bullying my 5 EE hens, so we will be eating two roosters in April. NOT my SLW hens! They are sweet on me but put up with NONE of the boys shenanigans! A rooster will try to bully one of them, and they jump up and peck back! Too bad they don't lay blue eggs. They also get along very well with the other "girls."
They are fast becoming one of my favorite breeds.

I found myself falling in love with the Wyandotte breed, all colors. I have two different colored wyandotte, and they are sweet babies, but do not put up with bullying in the least, not even from my schnauzer and yorkie! They will peck them just as fast as any chicken bully. Today, one shared my corn with me, she came to my plate and pecked it and I dumped all of my corn on the floor, she ate it like it was the best treat ever!
