The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to plan when my girls go broody. I'm thinking of contacting breeders, offering to buy the day olds, but not have them shipped until a hen goes broody, ie holding a place at the top of the shipping list (once I get there) until the chicks are needed . . .

I cringe when I see pictures of quality SLWs and compare them to my hatcheries; especially the body type.

I think that is a good way to go. If you are able to find a local breeder or a some what close breeder that would be great. I totally hear you about the silvers at hatcheries. I lucked out one year and got very good quality silvers. Tried it again but they were awful! You'd think they would breed toward color or type not neither :/. Where are you located?

I'm in Mobile, AL near the Gulf Coast. I was able to make arrangements with Pawhead Poultry in east Tennessee for day old Light Sussex (Bradshaw) and probably BCMs (Presley) also, to be picked up in late Feb or March or when ever my next hen goes broody. I'll drive up and get them; its only 8 - 10 hrs from here :) Mailing the deposit tomorrow. Very accommodating people, very helpful. I'll try to do the same with a quality SLW breeder if I can find one within several hundred miles.

I'm looking for someone selling silver laced Wayandotte fertile eggs from heritage lines (no hatchery lines). Anyone know where I can get some?

Draco,

Very nice lacing on those birds. I believe it is a point deduction for not having that extra nail. Im sure those birds eat well.

I have 2 week old SLWs. I believe I am seeing the start of lacing on their wings. Is this too early and I am just imagining? I will try and get a decent photo but these little buggers are fast and aren't too crazy about being held.
