The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

I still haven't been able to decide which of my SLW chicks are males/females. They are 10 weeks old now.

Having a hard time getting photos, they do not like to sit still. Any guess - all but two look pretty much the same, two have more white.

I've had good hatch rates with shipped eggs, but not so much with these SLWs. I think they were shipped from too far away. Of the eight eggs, I only had one hatch. Here is Daisy, brand new and very sweet. I think I will put one of my Silkie chicks in the brooder, so s/he won't be lonely.

I just got some SLW's!

I have been wanting them since I started getting chickens and yay I snagged two POL pullets!!! $12 a piece. They are hatchery stock and one has pretty poor lacing and the other has incomplete lacing but they are just for my layer flock so that's fine by me! Very sweet girls! They are separated right now and had all the other chickens worked up last night to but should settle down once they are all together.
I'm so excited!
And now introducing Sophie the Sweetie and Miss Penny Peckerton!

Sophie is just a sweetheart! The Hubby just loves her!

Miss Penny is so curious! She had to check everything out. Even the old crockpot! LOL Better get out of there!

Well, I slaughtered two SLW roosters yesterday. Now I'm trying to cure the capes, and I've found a buyer already! Here is a picture of my best SLW hen. I'll be breeding her.

Shipped eggs can be tough to hatch, especially if they come from across the country. Here's my one little SLW survivor, Daisy. This is a strong, healthy chick! She was all alone, so I put one of my October hatchlings in the brooder with her: a gentle, 4-week old Silkie. Daisy gets right under the Silkie's fluff and cuddles up.

I GOT MY FIRST EGGS YESTERDAY!!! Two of my SLWs have me two beautiful, nice-sized eggs. I took a pic...

And I got another beauty today! I can't tell who lays what yet, but I know the same girl laid this one that laid the darker one yesterday. They are 8 months old today, and I thought they wouldn't lay till spring, but they surprised me. I'm so proud!!!

Ok, this is driving me crazy, so I have to ask you fine folks. I have gotten 5 eggs in the last four days (I think) and all since the first day have been the same color basically. The only problem is it'd been a while since I'd checked the boxes when I found the first two, so I'm not 100% sure they were laid the same day. But anyway, is there any way that all five of these eggs could've come from the same bird? I know for a fact that the last two came from my girl, Astrid because I saw her in the box shortly before finding the eggs, but I'm wondering if there could be that much difference in egg color just during their first week of laying, or if one of my girls just laid one egg and then went on a hiatus. So, here they are. They are arranged by day of collection, going from right to left, and the first two I found on Saturday. Let me know what you guys think!

ETA: The lightest one does feel a bit thinner and lighter than the others. Is it possible this was just Astrid's pullet egg and her dye hadn't kicked in very well yet?
