Tarheel,
I see 4 cockerels and 2 pullets on that roost and a good looking bunch of birds.Your birds will be more comfortable with the 2X4's turned flat and the edges rounded. Just trying to help, but it is your coop and your call.

How did they get up there? Is that perch a 2x4 set on it's side?
Hmmm I think they maybe Foley. He is the most common quality blood line. I would look into getting another rooster and of course it would't hurt to get some new hens lol. You can (if you have the pens) do single pairings (1 rooster 1 hen). Then you can really have detailed bloodlines and be able to still work with the amount of birds you have. I would still get another rooster since it will be easier to pair and cross. You can pair the rooster with a hen and take a pullet from that breeding mate it with a new rooster and then breed a pullet from that to your cockerel. You are staying close to similar blood but not to close. It will also really bring out the traits you prefer. With proper book keeping and planing you can make your own line with 2 roosters and 4-6 hens. Just takes time!
Many times with silver laced wyandottes the chicks will vary in depth of dark and light naturally. It won't give any hint to color quality nor sex. Do you have a clearer photo of the darker ones? I'm pretty sure they are silver laced wyandottes but there could be a chance they are golden laced. Here is an example of 2 silver laced wyandotte chicks. Light versus dark. Does the dark one look like yours? So I hatched 6 SLW chicks last Saturday. 3 hatched on Friday on 3 on Saturday. The 3 that hatched on Friday are all silvery grey with black on their backs. The 3 that hatched on Saturday are mostly black with silver stripes down each side of its back. So do I have all SLWs, or did the vendor get some mixed up. Do SLW hatch different colors? (Some dark and some silvery gray?) If feather sexing works, the silvery gray ones are all males and the dark ones are females. Would males hatch first or would it be more likely that a certain hen laid those particular eggs? Any ideas?
First born group....born on Friday (a day early)
Group two, born on Sat. (hatch day) They all have the different wing lengths.
I've never had SLW, so don't know what to expect. Thanks for any help.
