The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

My 7-wk-olds found their perch tonight. When I went in, the stragglers were trying to figure out how everyone got up there.

Birds are so beautiful.
I recently won an auction of Foley SLW chicks - they are only two weeks right now but getting very jumpy and fiesty.
Cant wait for them to grow! but it goes so fast.

Tarheel,
I see 4 cockerels and 2 pullets on that roost and a good looking bunch of birds.Your birds will be more comfortable with the 2X4's turned flat and the edges rounded. Just trying to help, but it is your coop and your call.

Hello! Happy to have found this topic!

I have 2 SLW's and 2 ducks in my little back yard flock.

I was hoping you guys could help me... I currently thought I had 2 SLW hens... but one is stumping me now. Either way wouldn't matter just pets and will appreciate the eggs.

7 1/2 weeks old... Marsala, sorry the one in question isnt that clear of photos. Hoping to get some better ones this week. But *her* tail feathers are just completely different... She is a bit bigger and taller than Gracie now... Neither have waddle or comb growth yet though.

Marsala (Lady in Question...)

Here is Gracie

Don't worry it's a pullet :)

The rooster is the cockerels father. I'm not sure what line they are my grandpa got them for me 4 years ago and never told me the name.

Hmmm I think they maybe Foley. He is the most common quality blood line. I would look into getting another rooster and of course it would't hurt to get some new hens lol. You can (if you have the pens) do single pairings (1 rooster 1 hen). Then you can really have detailed bloodlines and be able to still work with the amount of birds you have. I would still get another rooster since it will be easier to pair and cross. You can pair the rooster with a hen and take a pullet from that breeding mate it with a new rooster and then breed a pullet from that to your cockerel. You are staying close to similar blood but not to close. It will also really bring out the traits you prefer. With proper book keeping and planing you can make your own line with 2 roosters and 4-6 hens. Just takes time!
