The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Pics
Sorry to say if they are 9 months old they are not going to change much. They are hatchery quality SLW's. They are pretty and if they are giving you eggs, enjoy them.

Thanks! I don't show or anything like that. I'm disappointed because I bought hatching eggs from a breeder and expected better quality. Oh we'll, you can't win 'em all! They are decent layers.

Finally got the winning from the Freidricksburg County Fair!

>Oppenheimer (silver laced cock) - reserve champion large fowl, champion American, best of breed, and best variety
>Silver laced hen - reserve champion American, reserve breed, and reserve variety
>black Orpington hen - champion English, best of breed, and best variety
>Mr.Sweets (partridge cockerel) - reserve variety
>partridge hen - best variety

Didn't get grand champion but was really close! They are definitely ready to come home and take a break from the attention.

CONGRATS! WOO-HOO! Do they get mealworms for their reward? :)

Has anyone ever heard of Wyandottes laying light brown eggs with dark brown specks?
I've had a few of mine do this yes. But the spots are not to dark not in anyway like a marans. I enjoy my Wyandottes because the eggs aren't always just plain old brown I get some lighter pinkish eggs and the spotted ones sometimes. But the majority lay a light brown egg.

Are both of these cockerels? We got three Silver Wyandottes straight run. One was killed by a neighbors dog and I was hoping that one of the remaining 2 would be a pullet but I don't think it's looking good. What do you all think? They are about 10 weeks old in these pictures.

Here are my 2 SLW's. They are about 8 months old now. The blacker one, Raven, She is one of my faithful layers, laying pretty much everyday.

Isabella is our biggest hen, she seems fickle about laying, last one she gave us was on the 25th of July. She is very docile, and will easily submit to being picked up. Not to mention what a lovely bird she is.
