The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I am looking for big, fluffy, breeder-quality chicks or eggs near Albany, NY. Have had wonderful success hatching my own eggs, so would be fine doing that.
Any leads? The fatter and fluffier and more defined lacing, the better!!

I have been looking high and low for the last few weeks and everyone has broken up their breeding pens for the season. Foley has quality birds, but will not ship until october. I may have a lead on some right now. If it pans out I will let you know.

My 2 y.o. SLW hen (who's obviously a horribly laced hatchery SLW) has been looking really "scruffy" for the past year or more... She's not molting, cuz she still lays eggs and its lasted so long. Sometimes it almost looks like her feathers are silkied. When she was still a young pullet her feathers were normal looking, although not very well laced. I was just wondering, has anyone seen this before? With this breed or any others? She doesn't get picked on or over-bred

Hi,

I'm afraid to say that your hen is definitely not 100% Silver Laced Wyandotte - theres a mix going on here. Have you checked her for mites? Near her vent is a good place to start? Could she be stressed? Have you seen her pecking her feathers or over grooming? Is there a Rooster running with her?

This is what she looked like when she's younger. I was just told she was hatchery equality. Are you sure she's a mix? And I'll try to check her for mites today, but I haven't really seen her over-grooming (but... She does seem to take more dust bathes than the other hens). I do have a rrooster,but he tends to stay away from her. Idk if she's stressed, she seems pretty happy. Fairly high up on the pecking order...

See how the lacing is broken on the feathers? She is a beautiful bird, but I'm also guessing there is a mix in her progenitors.

That could be possible. Does anyone know how it goes over at the hatcheries? I got her from the feed store, not sure where they get chicks from, but do they seperate them by breed and color? Is it possible that other roosters get into other breeding pens?
