I have pea gravel in the run and shavings in the coop with pea gravel underneath. I live in southern Louisiana so the humidity and water is terrible. The gravel keeps everything dry and I just rake it cleanThanks you guys! Yea she does have a deeper colored comb compared to the other breeds. And I am still wondering if hers will end up being a rose comb or smaller single comb. She is just a sweetheart!
Forgetful, I am curios... Do you have river rock/gravel in all or pet of your coop or run?

I just got to see my cousins golden laced Wyandotte this afternoon and studied her comb. And it's large and in charge. I am no comb expert but these all looked just like her hens.So here you can see the two 9 week old chicks with their their combs and waddles. I suppose we could be looking at roosters, but they were sexed by hatchery (so I guess I am rooting for ugly hens instead of handsome roosters) so conflicted![]()
, so if they are roo's I guess they will be nice ones. If hens perhaps they will lay lots of nice eggs even if they do look like this as adults. Any thought? Are they roos or just not good laced hens?

My two Silverlace Wyandots are now four weeks old.
how is the lacing for their age?![]()
Beautiful! Yours look more like breeder stock mine are Hatcherie. Where did you get them? Here's mine at that age purchased from TSC one has more lacing than the others. They are getting even more lacing now at 5 weeks. I think it just takes time to see how they are going to mature.
Blessings!
