The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

This is my first SLW. Are they all extremely flighty and skittish? Mine is terribly frightened about everything and freaks out when held. I think this photo is about 9 weeks or so.

I have two and they are the same way, they want nothing to do with us yet. What a pretty girl!!

Ingr is my first SLW. She's 3 months old and she's never been flighty or skittish. As a baby she was an escape artist- always flying out of her brooder the minute I opened the door. I would put my arm in and she would jump on to go for a "ride". She was so friendly I was worried that she was a roo!! At about 9 weeks she settled down. Now she is the calmest of the three older ones but at bottom of the pecking order. When I go to pick her up she doesn't squawk and act ridiculous (like my oldest EE), she just sits down and waits. She gets along with my younger two much better than her brooder-mates- I FINALLY moved everybody into their new coop yesterday. She isn't very talkative- she'll quietly forage near me when I'm in the yard. The others chatter non-stop! She does love sunflower seeds and sweet potatoes- that gets her squawking! All in all - she's a very calm, mild- mannered gal!

Mine is the most skittish of the group.... but she still lets me pick her up, just kinda protests at first. So yes, she is skittish, but also friendly. Chicken drama.

My silver laced Wyandotte chicks at 9 weeks. I introduced them to a coop and small run separate from the big ladies last week. Some advice for those that have not done this. There is a reason that the more experienced chicken keepers tell you to lock them in their coop for a couple of days to a week before letting them out in the run. I did not do this lulled by the fact that the introduction of first flock went very smoothly. As you probably can tell by now this did not happen in my second try. I had the hardest time getting them to roost at night. I had to go in and physically move them into the coop every night. After reading from previous posts I decided to lock them in the coop for a couple of days and reintroduce them to the run. It worked like a charm, last night was the first night they went in all by themselves. After that long and boring story I will reward you with some eye candy.
