The skin on the back of my calfs ears is peeling off!!!

has anyone mentioned rain rot, its been really wet here, and i know georgia has been wet as well, its kinda hard to see in those pics, try a good dandruff shampoo (equate brand from walmart always cured it for us) does it seem painful to the calf ?

She has had this since I got her 5 weeks ago. More of the skin has peeled off since then. It is dry and doesn't seem to bother her. There isn't much blood when the skin peels away. Although I did notice a little bit the last time. There are no scabs or bumps. Just dry brittle skin. Not soft and pliable like you would expect.

A couple of questions... Was she bottle raised ? If so - was she raised in a pen with other calves both before you got her & now? The reason I am asking is that the ears do not look like ringworm/rain rot or other fungal nor do they look as if a bacterial infection is going on. Looks to me like perhaps another calf is "nursing" her ears thus causing the skin slough. Years ago we had one with the same issue - usually it is on their umbilical humps or genetilia but I have seen one other case where the ears were nursed & looked exactly like your pics!
If not penned with other calves now - the damage should clear up over time. If penned with others - seperate her. This may not be your issue - but parasites, fungal or bacterial inflamations & infections generally do not look like what i see in the pics. I agree that if she is penned alone & the issue isn't clearing up - you probalbly need to call your vet. In the meantime just keep the ears clean - I'd use an iodine based solution - just in case it is a funky fungal issue! Iodine based solns will clear up fungal issues & some bacterial issues. Good Luck.

She is bottle raised. However she was penned alone when I got her and since I have had her. I'm planning to call a vet out. But it won't be till Wednesday. I was debating on trying an antifungal cream or antibiotic. I believe the black color further backon her head is just her changing face color. She is getting a black nose and other areas and has always had black around her eyes. It is weird, I haven't noticed it bothering her. It just worries me.
