This might be a dumb question but…. Does anyone have any tips for stoping the smell of chicks when inside? I have raised chicks before inside and outside. But I want to raise them inside because of the cold. So I need some tips and tricks to help keep the smell down. Any help is appreciated!

How many chicks in how big/what kind of brooder?

I brooded 8 chicks in an 8'x8' camping tent for 5.5 weeks and had no smell (other than the smell of the bedding, but no poo smell). I used hemp bedding and aspen bedding (changed out about once every ten days).

I also was lucky enough to have a spare bedroom in which to keep the tent, so that helped as well.

we raised three over four weeks indoors and there was definitely a very distinct 'chicken' smell that, honestly, lingered for a while after they went to live outside. I'd suggest an airpurifer nearby (that helped us the second time) and clean bedding often.

OMG, yes! I forgot to mention that I also had an air purifier running 24/7 with my setup. Probably made a big difference!

I am not raising my chicks on wood, I am raising on second hand cloth placemats. I throw out the place mats and replace them daily. I may have to start throwing them out 2x a day. I was more worried about the smell maybe than I had to be. My husband says he is okay. They are 1.5 weeks old. I do have a place for them if they do smell.

that's a lot of waste. you're better off to fill up their brooder with wood chips or shredded paper, then you can compost those when you change it daily. it also keeps it drier cos paper and wood absorb.
