So, 1/2 day Wed, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and now Sunday. I DID light a cigarette today, and lit one yesterday, but didn't smoke em- just lit them, and then put them out. As for WHY I lit em- I have no clue. I just .. needed to.
Otherwise not doing too bad. I think I actually miss my laptop (in the shop) more than my cigarettes.
Hubby stopped being grumpy about smoking outside- and has actually decided he wants to quit also. He is weaning first- he went from 2 packs down to.. get this.. only HALF a pack. Thats a cut back of 30 cigarettes. I'm quite proud of him. He bought the patch, but isn't quite ready for a cold turkey.
Normally, there are alot of posts on this forum that I read, and have a very strong opinion about. I try to keep my opinion out of it, because in a place with so many opinions, they could start some negative. There were a few coments posted on this thread that upset me. Because I am part of this thread, I need to speak.
EnglishChick, I truly want to thank you for starting all this. And everyone who joined in, thank you also. Because of you all, I just decided heck, I'll quit too. So this thread has literally helped me change my life for the better. In turn, it has made my husband change his life for the better.
We're all different. For me, smoking between a half pack and a full pack a day, it is easier to go cold turkey than it will be for my husband, a 2+ pack a day smoker.
I have a pack of cigarettes on hand. It wasn't planned. I was supposed to smoke em before New Years, but I quit 12 hours early. I don't need to throw them away. And yup, maybe I will smoke one. But I have proven to myself that I don't NEED to smoke.
Everyone is quitting in a different way also. Some will cut back, taper off. Some will do cold turkey. Some will smoke now and again. Others will never pick up a cigarette again. Some will use patches. Others will use gum. Some will get cranky. Others will cry, or sleep.
Ultimately, though, the end results will be the same. We will have kicked our addiction to cigarettes. We will not crave the nicotine. We will learn to live without that thing that has been a good part of our lives for 10, 20, 30 or more years. We will stop craving the smoking.
The thread was started to encourage each other, to be there, to have a support group. A support group says..
"You are doing great" even when someone slips, because it ain't easy.
To all you quitters- no matter what your method, you are doing something good for yourself.
Something positive. Something difficult. Every hour that goes by is an accomplishment. Keep the chins up. Pretty soon, we'll be able to do a cebratory dance without collapsing!!!
