"Okay, it'll work, but we need to network the visual transistor in order for it to transmit information back to us," Mark told her.
Alina turned from where she was standing, ruler in hand, by the scrap wood cupboard. She quickly crossed the room, evading the telescope, and glanced at it.
"Yeah, well, I know I can make this thing autonomous. It just doesn't go as fast as I wanted it to," she admitted, "I was figuring on making the wingtips more aerodynamic."

"How fast does it go now?" Mark wondered.

"Well, that should be fast enough for what we'll be using it for. Of course, with the scanner attached, we have to take wind resistance into account," Mark drummed his fingers on the scanner, thinking.
"I originally planned on having it being piloted by one person," she explained, "So the tests are based on that. The scanner's not much bigger."

Her eyes drifted over to the beaker of fuel, "And we'll have to be sure that the camera roll and scanner are well away from the fuel tank, because it's kinda dangerous stuff."

She winked at Calder, who acted as though he hadn't noticed.

Mark noticed the wink, and guessed there had been a mishap with the fuel earlier. "If we attach the scanner up here it'll be far enough away from the fuel that there won't be any danger, but still easy to take on and off."

"Fair enough," Alina said. She hurried back over to the chalkboard and began scribbling away some calculations and sketching out a diagram. After a moment, she nodded. "I reckon it'll be just fine."

"Okay. So Lila told you what I found?" Mark asked as he started putting the scanner on.

"Uh-huh." Alina said, around the pencil she had in her teeth. She had put it there whilst tying on the white apron. She pulled on some long white gloves and safety goggles before glancing around. "Hey, where's she gone?"

Calder, examining the scene out of the window, didn't reply.

Alina shrugged and pulled her flaming red hair back off her face, before picking up the fuel.
