The Special Needs chicken contest- Ends February 31st

This thread is amazing! We have to keep it going.

Thank you so much, I am going to extend the ending date.

I think ALL my chickens could qualify as 'Special Needs'...lol !!! They all seem to have some sort of issue, be it either physical, mental or, dare I even say it, emotional.
I'll try to post some pictures in a few days. In the meantime, you might want to go ahead and change the 'end date' of your contest anyway...February only has 28 days in it (unless it's a leap year). Just trying to be helpful! No harm, no foul...

Update: There is now no deadline to this contest, I will give at least a weeks notice when I believe that I have enough entries.

Please excuse the end date in the title

, February 31st.... Lol. As of right now there is no official end date.

ill enter! have two! what a great contest!

Name: Pumpkin
Age: 2 years
Breed: OE
Special Need: deaf in one ear

pumpkin hatched with one of my old broody hens in her first hatch. when she hatched, the broody pecked pumpkin in her ear, rupturing her ear drum. taking her back to the house she had passed away, but with a little chickie CPR she came back :)
her ear isn't a tumor, just a bulge that grew over time. 2 weeks ago I went to check the chooks and noticed pumpkins head was filled with fluid. im pretty sure her eardrum mustve ruptured again, and I didn't know what I could do for her. shes much better now :)
here is her 2 weeks ago:

OK heres my second entry:

Name: Bemmie
Age: 1 year
Breed: porcelain silkie
Special Need: mild crossbeak

I will post one this weekend of my special needs hen.

I love the idea of this and I have 2 prospective candidates.... both sadly incapacitated by Marek's disease, but I don't have any photos of them just yet. One of them is a tiny little cream legbar. She is really pretty like Pickles and looks the picture of health. but sadly she has long term paralysis of her leg. She gets about by hopping though and is very vocal about demanding her share of any treats that are being dispensed. The other is a cream legbar x RIR. She also has leg paralysis but it has come on relatively recently and she isn't managing to hop so well at the moment. I've been promising to get some photos of my girls for ages so will try to make time for a photo shoot soon.

Entires from any of you?

Name: Claudius
Age: 5-6 months
Breed: Salmon Faverolle
Special need: Clubbed foot.

She is named after the Roman Emperor Claudius (who also had a clubbed foot). I went to a local breeder to get a couple of EE pullets and was talked into taking this pullet too (had her about a month). She is a very sweet girl.

How about Scout? Scout is an Easter Egger who suffered severe frostbite on his feet when he was just a tiny baby.

Scout's deformed feet.

And our attempts to straighten them.

Scout, taken today when the Littles were introduced to the flock. His feet are still deformed, but he gets around fine. He runs, roosts, and scratches in the dirt - he just does it all differently than the other chickens.
