The Stowell Ridge Egg Plant

Think it's going to take electrified fencing to keep the husky from devastating your flock again. I am guessing the neighbors have no plans to confine him. How sad that you lost so many. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

I'm hoping this is a one time occurrence. They typically have him on a leash at all times. They have a fenced in area around a pool and he escaped. It all happened so fast. I went inside to get ice for the chicken water bucket and my neighbor came over to break the news to me. She was devastated and promised to be more careful and never forget a leash now that the husky knows the chickens are there. I am grateful that they are nice and considerate people. I truly like our neighbors. An unfortunate mishap that hopefully will never happen again.

Thank you everyone for the warm heart welcome! My wheels are turning on how to expand our run so that the flock has more room during the day while we're at work. Maybe I can justify a giant run if I also plan to enclose the garden and compost pile within it. I currently have 2 3x5 square foot vegetable garden boxes that I have wrapped in "bird and deer netting". That is working fine and I haven't had any issues but next year I want to plan to move them next to the coop (currently behind the coop and getting too much shade from trees) so it can then be in full sun. Since it would be in-line with the coop, I could simply make a giant rectangle of a 6 ft high wire mesh pen and then the flock can have access to the whole section. Wheels are turning :thumbsup
