The Straw Finally Hatched!

Here she is, just visible in the background, letting the chicks into the cage inside the run. She's keeping a close eye on the brood.

Awww how cute and yes, she does look quite cautious!

Juanita brought the chicks outside today, inside the protection cage. She tried to keep them mostly underneath her, but they kept escaping and checking out the other chickens, much to mama's chagrin. After all, she knows that the dominant hen picks on her, so what would happen with chicks? She finally herded them all back inside, because they were worrying her!
