I work for the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. I basically work with farmers mostly helping them with conservation needs and taking care of their animals and stuff. ONce in awhile I am lucky enough to do a workshop with people or kids on livestock or conservations stuff. Yup, i am lucky enough i can bring in 'Bird whenever I want to. He is my show and tell with kids that are in 4-H or the local FFA chapter. It really gets their attention. lol Our local extension office putson workshops for poultry owners as 'beginners workshops' etc.

Here is 'Bird at my office a few weeks back. he was the star attraction at our poultry owners workshop we had. It's so cool.

That's kind of how I stumbled on the Sultans. I wanted a breed that would really be an eye catcher and be good with kids.

He's a Red Sex Link that i purchased in 2010 out of the pullet bin at tractor supply. lolololol... Best mistake in the world. As you can see he is one heck of a 'pullet'

Mostly I work with dairy, hog, poultry farmers here in OHio that have a resource concern like water pollution, soil pollution, etc. I can help then to get funding for example an animal waste storage holding facility to store their cow poop in until the weather is nice out and they can spread it on their fields. That way they are not putting in on the fields in the middle of winter when the manure could just run off into the local creeks. Or, I can help a farmer plan, design, and get funding for a heavy use pad (gravel pad) that the animals can stay on when the weather is crappy out. That way they stay off the pastures and rut it up and get stuck in mud. I work with foresters to plan woods for our local landowners to help them control grapevines (come up with the plans and find federal monies to pay for it). I get a call out on a farm from a farmer who is at wits end and needs help with a run down delapadated farm and he just cant go on. I can help him plan it out as to better utilize his crop ground, his animals, feed, crops (better rotations) and so on. It is so cool to see the look on their faces when you can fund a 35K grazing operation for fencing so that their animlas will stay out of the local water ways and be kept safe.

That does sound like an excellent job! Our local college used to be mainly an agricultural college, but the city grew up around it, and all the farms are gone now :(. It made me feel as though agriculture is dead, but of course that can't be as there are still fruits, vegies and meat at the store!
