Those are Crevecoeurs. They look kind of like a black polish, but much larger, and with crests that flow backward, exposing the V-shaped horns and allowing for better eyesight. Plus they have red ear lobes and shorter legs. Their feathers have a beautiful beetle green shean when they grow up. My boy is very sweet, like a lap dog!

I need to take pictures of him as he's grown so much!

hokankai, can you go to the feed store and order birds through them? I mean, do they usually let you order some chicks along with one of their orders or something?

Yes, he feed store is just doing special order chicks in addition to their normal orders. I had to pre-pay and tell them which availability date I wanted. They'll order them tomorrow and let me know when they arrive! They said they'll order any of the chicks from Ideal's catalogue.

I had to pay $8 a chick, but considering I don't have to pay for a lot of them, get male filler chicks, and risk getting DOAs I think that's a pretty good deal for just being able to pick them up.

It's just that I just got notification that Ideal has Brabranters available, but I can't order a whole mess a birds, LOL, I'd only want maybe 4 pullets (sexed) birds for more eggs and to enjoy their beauty. If I could order them through the feed store, that'd be really great! I'll have to ask them. I'd try to get them when I hatch more Crevecoeur chicks so they can grow up together

Woah Brabanters are funny looking, LOL! So many silly breeds :p

Yeah go ask your feed store, they might be up for it :). I know the guy at my other feed store allowed me to "suggest" a breed, but that was way before they did their ordering and I'm pretty sure he was being flirtatious....HAHA

LOL, yah, and I'd love a yard full of all kinds of birds, but I think I'll pass on those and concentrate on what I have. I'm already going to try hatching more Creves, which I already have, in April, and I think it would be best if I just stuck to a couple of breeds. I want to see if I can keep my flock going nicely for myself and not hatching more than I need :) We shall see if this can be a self contained system
