we are all soooooo used to it too. But little 'Izzy is to much of a primadona to poo. nope, she is to girly girl. she will even bawk to you telling you she doesnt poo.

On the flip side, i noticed that she was getting a little bit of red tinge on her face yesterday. Could we finally be maturing?????

My little chick is so incredibly sweet! Nothing like the first batch of Sultans??!! S/he will just sit in my hand and fall asleep. Doesn't even peep (hardly)! But s/he is perfectly normal in the brooder, so s/he is not sick, just sweet and likes people

I really really hope it's a girl!

When I went to collect eggs today there were 2 cute little Sultan eggs!!!!!! 2!!!!!!! 'Izzys first egg everyone!!!!!

Fishnet, congratulations on getting Izzy's first egg!

Well, I had to separate Nugget from the rest of the flock today. I noticed a few days ago she wouldn't come out of the coop. One morning she was still up on the roost, the next she was hiding in the corner. Today, she had stuffed herself under a boat motor we had leaned up against the fence and was covered in grease. Poor thing. She got a bath, then I put her back out with the flock. A few hours later, she was hiding under the dog house. I watched for a bit and saw our rooster chase her around. He wouldn't stop even with me trying to push him away. She started following me around like she was trying to hide by me. She's let me handle her more today than in all the time I've had her. I've picked her up and carried her around. She must know I'm helping her. Poor Chicken Nugget! I brought her over to the other side of the fence with the rabbits and put a dish of birdseed and meal worms out for her. She seemed pretty hungry and thirsty. She's clearly at the bottom of the pecking order, but I don't want her bullied.

Back story on the rooster: He's a Golden Laced Wyandotte and usually pretty docile. He's below the 2 Barred Rocks in the pecking order. About a week ago, he puffed up his feathers and came right up to me when I throwing birdseed out. He's usually afraid and I can't touch him, but he'll eat from my hand. He's been getting bolder and bolder, until today he came right up and bit the palm of my hand. I pushed him away and he came right back. I've tried holding him down and carrying him around. After today with him bullying Nugget, I've decided to take him down to an urban chicken supply store and use him for a poultry processing workshop they hold once a month. We live in the city and can't cull him here, so it will work out perfectly. It would be irresponsible to try and rehome him, now that I know he's aggressive. At least people can learn from him. I'm a little sad. I had planned to keep him and he's a beautiful bird. But, I know the flock will be much happier without him.

On another note, I took a sample of 'Izzys poop to the vet to send to a parasitologist last week and I got a call today from them saying she has tapeworms and coccidiosis. We we'd both right Cluck. I said worms u said antibiotics. I bought a gallon jug of Albon from my vet and some tapeworm stuff. I knew she wasn't right yet. Poor 'Izzy.

OlivesMama, I'm really sorry about the rooster Those hormones kick in and sometimes they just go nuts. It's so awesome that there is a processing class near where you live. There is a local group here that held some classes, but I'm so busy, I haven't gone, and I don't know if they'll do it again

Awww, poor Izzy. I hope it clears up soon. I need to decide if I'm going to de-worm my flock on a regular basis or not. I'm reading both sides of the argument and am not sure. I'm wondering if maybe, just maybe, I can get away with not worming them because it's so dry here? I do check their poop a lot, but not sure if I'd see anything?? I do have bumblefoot on two of my other birds, and did a shoddy job cleaning them out (not the right tools) so I bought tools online, and am waiting for them (scalpel and scooper thingy) so that next time I torcher them, I do it right and get them fixed! I still have to make a couple of modifications to their coop that might have caused it. Otherwise, the flooring is cushy and pretty clean, nothing rough around (except one tree stump... too hard to get out!) So I'm putting a step in to the roost and adding rungs to their ramp so they're not so far apart.

I can fix 'em all up good as new!
