Pics
Been trying to get a pic of my Sultan but just never seem to get the right "moment". I am wondering if it might be a cockerel because of how stinkin red the comb is.... and it is very obvious.....not something you have to look for...any help without a pic? I will try to get a pic yet again today, thanks.

Not sure how old your sultan is. Mine are 12 weeks old and FINALLY 2 have developed the red outline of the beak and when I look thru the feathers on the head I see the dark red capital V comb where the others all still have the pale lower case v comb. Feathering all look the same so I either have all 6 roosters and the others are just sow in maturing or the other 4 are pullets and the cockerels just have not gotten their saddle feathers yet. I also have 8 polish of the same age and some have the pullet crest but none have a lick of red in the comb yet. Hope that has been of some help.

Thanx for the info, had never found when the saddle feathers start. You have been a big help!! Now I know I have a few more months to wait. No worries, I like them all just the same. Will probably keep them all regardless of the sex.

ok..... um I don't think I have anymore question as to whether this sultan is a roo or not considering HE just crowed right infront of me! but here is a pic ....the second pic is of another sultan that as far as I know is about a year old and has never crowed BUT they are "fighting" lately.... so I am wondering if it too it a roo?

ok so this is the definite roo

I'm not sure if those crest feathers are wet, but either way, I'm thinkin' roo. My hen is well over a year now and doesn't even have a comb that large and red.

Sultans are, yes, VERY slow to mature. My boy didn't start crowing until after several other of our roosters at the time began.

Lady GaGa - 4 weeks old -Sultan right?

Lady GaGa at 2 days old. She's the 2nd one from the right. Sorry for the "red light" effect.

I'm raising sultans again and I am gonna start a breeding project for another color. I plan on using la flèche and possibley porcelain duccles. In my reaserch on sultans I discovered that the original sultans went extinct and were resurrected using polish and duccles. Anybody wants work with me on this? Anyway, I'll start my first crossing this winter
oh yeah, I really like my la flèche, they are pretty birds. Mine have tiny crest (French standard) and nice pointed combs, so I'm gonna try them as a cross for color and go from there
