You guys will remember last week I asked you about a sleepy girl then asked if they can be blind. I'm 100% certain that she is blind now.
I noticed right away that she had a cross on her head. She had a rough start at life. I wasn't sure she would make it that first 3 days. She was a very very sleepy baby. She was ALWAYS approachable. My DD7 loved her b/c she NEVER ran from her when she tried to pick her up. All of the other ones run from her. She was telling me how sweet Lexi was and how she was always willing to cuddle. When she told me that, I started watching her closer. She was hardly ever awake. I said from day 2 that I thought she was blind...I wasn't sure though. I just knew that something was wrong with her. I hand fed her for 3 days. She now eats regularly on her own. I still wasn't sure about what was wrong with her. When we put her into the grass, she would just lay down and fall asleep right away. My mom came to visit for a night (YAY!) and she confirmed what I suspected...she thought Lexi was was also blind. Now I'm sure she is. So far, there are no problems with her and the other chickens...but Todd and I are going to try to come up with a plan if she is picked on, she will have to be taken away from her sisters.
She's incredibly sweet. If we get too far away from her outside (I think she listens for our voices), she cries and cries. When we come back, she quiets and lays back down and goes to sleep. She's super cuddly and loves snuggles in the nook of your neck.
She's really funny...after everybody goes to sleep at night, she walks around crying and crying. I usually have to come back in and tell her that it's time to go to sleep now and she needs to lay down. She curls right up and goes to sleep. I just think she needs to hear our voices one more time.
The funniest thing she does is get lost in the cardboard box that we have in the cage. It's really funny. Sometimes it takes her a while to find her way out. Poor thing.
She's going to be a useless chicken...really...she's going to be so spoiled she won't be worth anything...lol But, I'm so thankful that she came to us. I really think that she will be special to us. We have a lot of time and love invested in her and I think she'll return that tenfold.
