the taste of Layena

I have tried dog food and snacks, and I have tried horse feed. I can't say that I have or ever will try chicken feed of any sort!

A.T. Hagan :

It's a general purpose poultry feed with 20% protein, but not a lot of calcium. Good for pretty much any kind of growing or mature bird from chickens to turkeys. I don't use it for chick starter though. That's the only special feed I buy. I supply oyster shell on the side for the laying hens that need the additional calcium.

Good point! TSC was out of Flock Raiser, so I got Layena. God! It's grayish color and somewhat bland smell, when I first opened it. Girls hated it!

From this point I made a decision to feed Flock Raiser and add oyster shells or crushed egg shells for calcium. I now buy two bags at a time of Flock Raiser in order to not run out of it.

Say What?

Chicken don't like feed?

They get feed, they eat feed, never heard one complain.

Layena is as good as it gets. Quit spoiling them, put it in the feeders, as sure as the sun shines, they will eat it.

Yes! I have tasted Layena, Flock Grower, Starter/Grower and even Calf Manna, as for my taste buds go, I would go for a peanut butter and jelly samich before any of them, but then again I ain't a chicken. So far the best tasting animal feed I have "tried" is Purina Strategy for the horse, smells like black licorice, taste a little sweet.

My chickens like the flock raiser better then the layena and I think they are doing better on it. The only thing I feed different is the durmor 24% for the chicks.

Ive always reckoned that the chickens will get what I'm willing to pay for. I have yet to ask them which brand they prefer; certainly Im reluctant to ask if they have a preferred serving method - I fear they'll answer and then Im bound to oblige. Musn't get too deep in debt with a critter that will just as soon poop on your feet...

To date, they have done fine on the feed from the local mill.
