I've never tasted it (cracking up at the thought), but I think Layena smells sooo good. I rip open a bag and just inhale.
Several times I've caught my cat munching on it too. It can't be that bad!
I've tried my birds with Layena many times over the years and they don't seem to find it as palatable as other brands. Mostly I use Purina Flock Raiser now and it surprises me at the difference in smell and color from Layena. Been a time or two that my feed store would be out of Flock Raiser so I'd get a bag of Layena to get them by until they got more in stock. Feed consumption always goes down for a couple of days when I do that.
Of course Purina has regional mills so even though we are all buying the same brand and type it's not always the same feed depending on where in the country you live.
Calf Manna does smell really good. But I confess, I've never tasted the products that I feed my critters. Then again, I don't eat their grass and hay either.
Mine eat their Layena just fine. Of course they are being offered roast pork as an alternative.
It's a general purpose poultry feed with 20% protein, but not a lot of calcium. Good for pretty much any kind of growing or mature bird from chickens to turkeys. I don't use it for chick starter though. That's the only special feed I buy. I supply oyster shell on the side for the laying hens that need the additional calcium.
