So I got home today and had a gut feeling that something was wrong with one of my newly hatched chicks. I ran up there and saw one under the momma outside but couldn’t find the other one. Panicked, I ran into the coop and moved my hen off of the top of the eggs searching for her and couldn’t find her. I remembered that there’s an area right beside the boxes in between the pallet boards that one of the chicks fell down into the other day and died and I shined my flashlight in there. Sure enough, I found the baby chick in the corner, balled up and only had minutes to live. I picked her up and ran outside of the coop and was heading for the gate when I slipped and busted my face in chicken poop. The chick never touched the ground. I brought her down and put her under the heat lamp and got a syringe full of water and she started to drink. I poured some food and bedding in the bottom of an old hermit crab cage and put her in there hoping she would survive. Slowly but surely, she started to regain strength and started to stand up on her own again Thank goodness I found her before it was too late. Am I wrong for taking her other chick away from her because I was so worried that one of my other chickens would hurt her? I feel so bad but I feel like it was for the chicks own good. (The cage has air grates in the top of it btw) I sure am going to be feeling that fall tomorrow though. Lol

I hope you aren't hurting to much tomorrow. Glad you found the chick in time. I probably would have done the same.

I would try to get her back to mama asap.

I hurt for a day or two but she is doing fine now along with her two siblings. I took the rest of the chicks away from her because I worried about their safety and the last one is starting to pip through

Could you maybe make mama and babes a safe spot together?
Not saying you did anything remotely wrong but that is going to be one upset hen for at least a few days.
Also, glad you didn't break your neck sliding for home base in chicken poop.
Amazing how slippery that stuff is isn't it? Lets you know why you almost never see a constipated chicken.;)

I took the babies away and she was completely fine somehow. But the last one that hatched passed away yesterday sadly. :(
