The things you do for your grandson

We are in Cumberland County, NC. We have big plans for our chicken coop (not built yet) but no experience whatsoever. Our grandson, who lives with us, will be one year old soon. Looking to BackYardChickens for sage advice so as not to become overwhelmed with all the things. :D

Do you have chickens yet? I know this is ironic, but I actually don't recommend getting chickens right NOW. The reason is because there is an avian influenza going around and it is lethal. There are LOTS of cases in NC, so I would withhold chickens for now. But of course, this is just my opinion. A lot of folks are keeping chickens in their garages and stuff. If you could bypass this, you should. Avian influenza is no fun, poultry who get it are culls, and humans can get it too. Migrating birds can carry and spread it. You might want to take a look at this: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ou...vian-influenza/hpai-2022/2022-hpai-wild-birds
