THE THREAD FOR HATCH-A-HOLICS

Im hatching chicks they are under one of my chickens!

Oooh, I love using broodies, alot more than incubators actually, bc you just set the eggs, and basically (try to) forget they are there, and she does all of the work involved in raising them.

I have hatched twice with an incubator and working on third time this year with a broody. (Yep another broody hatch day on the 21st. )

Best of luck, what breeds are both of you hatching?

I have 4 mixed with our girls (not sure if they are fertile yet, so I wanted to check. Our rooster is crowing but is still young) I also have 3 light brahama under her.

I almost bought an incubator, but someone bought it before me. I have two ducklings in my house (ugh I'm reminded how messy they are) and just spent $1000.00 on a huge new coop and run. Also I'm worried what to do with all those cockerels!!
The cockerels taste just like chicken.

The following was the definitive hatchaholic thread for over 2 years. I guess it is time to start another.

I have about 40 eggs about to hatch in 1 day and 6 hours. Almost that many due on Monday and a bunch more in another week after that. I'm also setting eggs today.
 Thats alot of chooks. What'll you do with all them things? And what breeds are ya hatchin?:pop

I have a couple people on a waiting list for chicks plus I need more birds here. I'm butchering 2 roosters this week which will leave me with only 3 roosters and I hate getting down to under 5 primary roosters and a couple backups.
I have 23 hens and 2 pullets but at least 10 and maybe as many as 15 of those hens will be replaced this winter.
My NPIP testing is next Tuesday so it's time to start building up the flock numbers again.
After over 30 breeds, all I raise any more are Penedesencas and only the DP Black variety.

Sounds like fun! I just did a headcount of all my chickens, and chicks, and I've got 49 altogether!

Went a good long while without hatching eggs. And then one of my naked neck pullets started laying and I thought - “well let’s just see if they’re fertile”. Now it’s day 18 and I’m saying “well, let’s just see if I can hatch them”
