THE THREAD FOR HATCH-A-HOLICS

Good news: I was able to hatch one of the eggs and the chick is darn cute. Plus I already have some chicks so it won’t be alone.

Bad news: it was supposed to be a naked neck lol.
Either way it’s absolutely adorable and really downy? Compared to the other chicks.
Thats funny that it was supposed to be a naked neck, but your right, that is a pretty downy and adorable chick! Cant wait to see what it feathers out to look like

Just what I figured. The four eggs that were under my broody from our flock were not fertile. Cockerel is only 4 1/2 months so I didn’t think he was doing the job yet but wanted to check since we had a broody. She does have three fertile to hatch though. 14 days to go.

Best of luck, I love broodies! What breed is she, and what breed is the roo, and the eggs that are fertile?

I tried my first hatch a month ago. I did everything based on "normal" incubation practices. I had them "shipped" to me. Out of 14 eggs 8 started out ok but 3 quit (blood rings) on day 10. the other 5 seemed to do well until lockdown. I was so anxious to see baby chicks in 3 more days but nothing happened. That is when I started doing more research and found out there is different things that need to be done with shipped eggs because of "detached" air cells. So I immediately ordered more (24 this time) and have just set them last night. Out of the 24 eggs all but 5 were detached. So I am incubating the 5 non-detached air cell eggs normally with automatic rotating but the others I am setting fat end up and not rotating with automatic turner but instead manually moving them ever so slightly side to side 3 times a day. Wish me luck and if any one has any additional suggestions I am open to any help. :)
