The Trap Nesting Thread

Manoz - originally I did have the pin higher. At that position, the lower section was about 90 degrees. Then when I finished it, I put the pin in lower. Sounds like I'll need to put it back in it's original place. I wondered about that. Guess I was over compensating for a problem that hasn't even arisen yet.

PS - remember that this box is 2" higher than yours. So it looks like the top section is too long but really it's about the same as yours so far as distance to the bottom.

galanie-----I used 1/4 plywood for the door ,the half inch I mentioned earlier were for the boxes.I should have mentioned that, sorry Maam!
Some of my doors have 3/8 plywood for the bottom piece of the door but they all have 1/4 inch plywood for the top piece of the doors.

you are almost there, just a little more tweaking lol

lol well I thought 1/2 inch would work better. But now, I'm thinking that I shouldn't have used up all my 1/4" luan scraps for this, because the lighter, thinner stuff would indeed be better. Ah well!

This is what you wanna avoid, reason is they may try to go in from there and of course mess the whole thing up

galanie----your at the watching stage right now.If you have time, try and watch them and their movements.Mine will practically scrape the floor of the box trying to avoid the door. The more frequent users are not so careful. 2 ways I went about it.First I had to re-cut the doors, once I seen like 4-5 hens using the 5 1/4 [#2] box. When I say 5 1/4 I mean the bottom height.I made all the rest that size.Once I did that I had more laying in other boxes.I could get everybody using the boxes 'cept one bird, which proved to be smaller than i want esp. for a meat bird breed. That bird caused me to add pieces of board to all my boxes in order to lift up the floor right underneath the door. She sets them off like everybody else now but her stats speak against her.She is at the bottom of the list as far as laying goes and she is smaller than everybody else,2 strikes against her already,3 if I count the fact that she can get in and out of the boxes without setting them off. This is how I'll go about culling some of my birds.

Catching them going in the box is the easiest way to find out what you gotta do next!

I wouldnt go lower than 4 1/2 inches, they looked at those boxes that were 4 1/2 in front and kinda rolled their eyes like "I hope he dont think we gonna use that!!" and walked away.To high and its in and out without a trace of who it was. To low and you may have to look for that egg elsewhere. Gotta fine tune the door to your birds now.

They're letting you know they gonna lay in it,I think you can throw that file cabinet away now.

I see why your design evolved with the boards spaced.lol
