Well, I passed the test with flying colors.
My DH met me (and our 4 year old) at
TSC this afternoon. Only five of their brooders had babies in them; the other three were empty. One had the most adorable Khaki Campbell ducklings ... they were so sweet I had to take a photo:
One tub had Cornish Rocks, but the chicks already were showing their feathers. Those were NOT day-old hatchlings. There was a brooder full of Speckled Sussex straight runs, one had Golden Comets, and one had "Pullets" that could be RIRs (they weren't) or Leghorns. Only one chick really appealed to me, a little Golden Comet with a lightning-bolt pattern down its back, but not enough to make me buy six. We held the little duckies for a bit, and then we left empty-handed. I think my DH was more disappointed than I was. He asked the lady at customer service if they knew what breeds they'd get in tomorrow. She handed him a flyer and told him to mark what birds we were interested in, then told us she'd call if any of these came in.
So we're back to our two-week countdown, unless I visit the other
TSC about 30 minutes away. Perhaps I'll call first. Someone has got to have a few little Easter Eggers, maybe a Cochin? I'd take another Buffie!
I'm chick deprived.
